Just a shame then, that this, obviously superb manager, you describe, is unable to do all that you describe with his own team, that he 'apparently' did with Martin Ling's team.
Perhaps just let a well reasoned argument answer for you.Southampton Gull wrote:Don't confuse the poor chap, David. You'll have him crying into his glass of hot milk
But no, you don't seem to be able to do that without being abusive or belittling. Says a lot about you.
I make my points without resorting to name calling or abuse of fellow posters. My views may not always be popular with those who don't want to face reality but I do not resort to personal attacks on other posters. Sadly, you seem unable to do that. Perhaps your lofty status as an 'administrator' - whoopee do - gives you a bit of gravitas that real life doesn't.

Belittling? No more so than yourself.
You want to see Alan Knill sacked a few games into the season when his side has been decimated by injuries suspensions and poor form from unexpected sources yet want to take the moral high ground? Don't make me laugh.
I've made it plain that I'm not for or against Knill in the context of whether he is a good manager or not, the fact is we're strapped for cash and can hardly afford to go wasting money by way of a kneejerk reaction in sacking a man and his assistant who have shown real commitment to doing the job. Knill worked for practically nothing to save us from relegation, he persuaded Brass to join us and almost certainly for far less money than he would have got if he'd taken another job offer. You want to repay that kind of loyalty and commitment by sacking them with less than a quarter of the season gone?
That says all anyone needs to know about you. Fans like you are no better than armchair premiership followers, short term goals with short term fixes, invariably they fail, the difference being that we have a fanbase of 2500 attendees, not 50,000

Hey, it's great on here when there's a little spat going, isn't it ?hector wrote:

I had no complaints with Knill's appointment but like you, I have been disillusioned with what we've seen so far this season. Six home games - one win and three of them ending Torquay Knill. Apart from the Cheltenham game (the only home game I've missed - maybe I should stay away more often !) we've given the opposition keepers a comfortable time. On Saturday, apart from Billy's effort which hit the post, I can't think of any other time when Marriott, the Mansfield keeper, had to do anything much except take routine crosses. Even if we could afford it, I wouldn't be calling for Knill's head yet. As Forever said, we're only a quarter way through the season. We have to be patient and allow the management team time to get the players playing as Knill wants. But if things haven't changed by the halfway stage, I would be having second thoughts. On paper at least, we've got a few easier games between now and the end of November so I think we may well pull away from the bottom. On the other hand, we expected wins against York and Mansfield and possibly Newport ...... Time will tell, Hector, but I agree that we don't want to get to March and find ourselves in another dogfight.
Joss Labadie signed by Alan Knill. Elloit Benyon signed on loan by and never played by Shaun Taylor and Ryan Jarvis signed and hardly played by Martin Ling. Hector do not why I bother really as in 15 minutes I need to come around and feed you.hector wrote:

That said though, Dave - despite Alan Knill's commitment and loyalty, you have to concede that Hector is right in saying that what we have seen so far this season is neither good football nor entertainment? Fans are paying out good money and I hear many, many disgruntled comments on my way out of Plainmoor after every match. It isn't only Hector !

I've been hearing those kind of disgruntled comments for years mate, even when we were winning under Ling it was the same. I'm not defending Knill, what I'm defending is his entitlement to be judged over a fair amount of time and not less than quarter of a season. I discount last seasons relegation escape because that wasn't with a squad of players of his choosing.

You are entitled to your opinion regarding the manager, the same way I am entitled to mine. But you are unable to put your point forward without using abusive names (e.g. village idiot), or suggesting that anyone who would like a different manager should be an armchair premiership follower.Southampton Gull wrote: Abusive? Could it simply not be the case that the board made a mistake in appointing Knill and that it is very clear to see?
You can wait for him to see if it works out or you can act. You think the former, I think the latter, based on the evidence of his record and what we are seeing now. Yet I have not resorted to calling you names because you have a different point of view. Even Knill gave the 10 game parameter as a mark when his team could be judged and essentially for the bulk of those first ten games he was playing his first choice team, other than Poke.
Do you hear the comments from fellow supporters at Plainmoor? Those frustrated with Alan Knill are not isolated voices. There are plenty on this forum, plenty on the supposedly more 'rational' TFF forum and plenty around the ground. Take out the joke appointments like John Cornforth and Rubik Cube and in my view, Knill is the worst manager we have had since Saunders and back then, people were saying the same thing as you about Saunders, as you are about Knill.
Bizarrely, Alan Knill appears in the list of, albeit rather strange, candidates for Middlesbrough job at 66/1

And it's posts like that happily convince people you are a village idiot.hector wrote:You can wait for him to see if it works out or you can act. If you try reading the "10 game" article on the website, you will see it says "Alan Knill is looking at the first ten games to assess his squad" and "As a manager or a coach, you look at the first ten games to decide where we are and what we need to do".
Because you have problems grasping concepts, it means he was using the first 10 games to decide where things needed improving and what changes need to be made.
What it clearly doesnt mean, though plenty of people seem to trumpet it as fact, is judge the management team after 10 games.
The same applies to your "evidence" you bleat about his previous record. Just total rubbish really.
You seem to think keeping Bury in the top part of the division for the best part of 3 seasons (including the playoffs) just counts as one successful season?
You appear to blame him for Scunny getting relegated from the Championship (a typical L2 team if ever there was one, having spent 30 of the last 40 years in the bottom division) despite him not arriving there till after the loan window was closed, with them in the relegation slots?
He kept Rotherham up despite a 10 point deduction the 1st season, admittedly he couldnt do it a 2nd season running with another 10 point deduction plus having his best players sold from under him. The Rotherhams fans i have asked about his time there (about 5 or 6 of them), blamed the board for their situation, not the manager. How many did you talk to before arriving at your opinion?
Apathy Rules...............it's ok though, nobody's that fussed about it........

I know we've done this already, but I can't pass it by again. **** ing hell Hector, you're a funny bastard. Knilly signed two loanees last year who were so good that they both got recalled to the starting line-ups of their parent clubs within weeks of arriving.
Contrast this with Lingy, who once signed a defender on lan and sat him on the bench until his parent club complained to FIFA (well, they could have done) and recalled him to play for their reserves.
I'm still laughing at your previous suggestion that he arrived in March and didn't sign anyone. Comedy gold.
Matt.

Knills clearly got a knack for bringing decent loanees in, McCourt being the latest. Azeez too, ok didn't have a great game saturday, but, he's with us to learn, he's not the finished article yet so what can we expect.ferrarilover wrote:I know we've done this already, but I can't pass it by again. f**k ing hell Hector, you're a funny bastard. We ought to comfortably finish mid table this season, i see the last 4-5 games as a bad patch. Also, look at our fixtures over Christmas, ok, no easy games but certainly something to look forward to. Roll on Pompey, even considered the boot up to Burton tonight but it's a bit far on an evening with work the next day. For me, i certainly appreciate a decent game and good football but it's also just being there that makes it worthwhile. Going off on a tangent here so apologies. Being away form Torquay for the last 20 years, being able to watch them away whenever i can and also get to home games regularly now, well, it makes me feel a lot closer to home.
I've had a season ticket for Fulham before now and still go and see them regularly, but Torquays the first result i look for, and given the choice between Wimbledon v Torquay and Fulham v Man Utd, i'd choose to go to Wimbledon.
I hope one day the job situation in the bay changes and the IT sector picks up because i'd love to live there and earn a decent wage.
