I see that both Gillingham and Bury have parted company with their managers. Just shows how a group of directors can wield the axe so early in the season.

Indeed with Martin Ling and Alan Knill, the players are seeing two very different management styles, Lingy is believed to have thrown rose petals at the feet of the players and AK some what more hard nosed.
For me it is a very difficult thing to do, to find a perfect balance between the two. The thread is a will AK be next question I think, can not see that happening any time soon, it would be a fatal decision financially to commit the club to another big pay out, on a hunch, opinion that AK can not turn things around, I believe he will.

Of course he won't, he's having a real shocker at the minute and his management style is as convincing as a drunk teenager returning home to his parents at midnight but he still has time to get it together and I think he will eventually. Not to any amazing standard but enough to keep people at bay for another summer.
We'd be crazy to sack Knill now. Who would we get? Where would we find the money? Would it make a blind bit of difference? Games are passing and we are still struggling I admit but give him more time and then we'll see where we are at.
No panic yet and no need for discussing sackings.

I was just pointing out what fate has befallen two managers by trigger happy directors. Martin Allen has only just got Gillingham promoted! No other suggestions intended other than healthy debate!

Now, I'm no fan of Martin Allen, his record is mixed, but I would suggest it is a more successful one that Alan Knill. Allen seems quite an animated figure on the touchline, while Knill just stands there, so I really do not see any similarity.

Some clubs, or their directors, seem far too ready to dismiss their managers when they should perhaps be better advised to support their managers financially in getting rid of those few players in a squad who have turned out to be a liability and a burden to the rest.
It can take a manager a season or more to turn things around at a club and build a successful team, whereas it would be pointless to wait that long for an established player to turn his form around and improve his performance and usefulness to the rest of the squad.
Better to focus on developing the potential of the youngsters. And better to support your manager and give him the time (if not the money) he needs to do his job.
