Yes, he really hasn't been great so far, but I see no guarantee we could get anyone better. I suppose if money were no option, we would get in some big name manager who has no idea League 2 even exists but then that isn't going to happen.

As for Buckle, I happen to think the phrase, "Better the Devil you know" sums him up perfectly. For all his arrogance and large boots, he was actually a very good manager for us and I think if he were to return, we'd see a more humble Buckle coming back. He had us playing good football and knew how to motivate a team when they needed to be. Despite Ling's fantastic first season, I felt closer to promotion to League 1 under Buckle than under a 2nd placed Torquay side under Ling.

Time is being kind to Mr. Buckle. Just after he left the vituperation on this site was quite extreme; this has died down now (with the exception of one or two malcontents). In comparison with the present incumbent and Mr. Ling, Mr. Buckle's results do seem good, but remember that most of these results were in non-league football and (as far as I can gather) he had more money to spend. No, going back is always dangerous and looking ahead it may be the case that Mr. Knill will be seen in future years as a temporary stopgap. It would be foolhardy to sack him now but, when the times does come - as surely it will - a young, perhaps even an inexperienced, new manager might well be the answer.

Give it time im sure we will get going. Sounds like were playing good football but just needs to full togther. Ive not been to games as working in turkey but from what i hear it can only get better.

Buckle didn't have a bad start. He got off to a flyer as manager here. You are right, in that the season we went up, we started off slowly - but not this slowly.

As Wivelgull says, it does feel like he is an interim manager anyway. I can't see him being here long-term.

I will always support the incumbent manager right up until the day he is sacked. I will not do anything to undermine his position.
But if that day comes I bring to your attention a bright prospect up and coming from the Blue Square South.
I went tonight to see Yate Town play Gloucester City in the FA Cup. I hoped to see a good display of attacking football. I wasn't disappointed. But it went the opposite way to what I expected.
Yate were comprehensively destroyed in what was a very one sided affair.
Gloucester City had done their homework and were determined not to be turned over by Yate like Newport had been. The way they were organised show a manager who knew what he was up against and how to prepare for it. They didn't just do a job on Yate. They totally destroyed them. 7-0
I used to watch this young manager when he was one of Bristol Rovers more reliable strikers way back when they played at Twerton Azteka. David Mehew came to Rovers with John Scales in a double swoop when both were released from Leeds Utd.
Scales went on to a bigger clubs eventually earning an England cap or three after a big money move from Wombledon to Liverpool.
David Mehew stayed with Rovers to become something of a legend earning the nickname of Boris as he looked like Boris Becker a big name tennis player who won Wombledon a few time.
Boris finished his career at Rovers and went into coaching and then management. His teams have been built on a shoestring and yet have consistently achieved way above their station. He was appointed manager of Gloucester City in 2009 after a stint at Weston Super Mare. He has achieved miracles there despite the club being forced to play in another town after their own stadium was ruined by the sever flooding in 2007.
Now who was the last manager we had from non league untried and untested. Who led one of the most inspirational teams we have ever seen at Plainmoor. Oh Yes!. Leroy Rosenier. Who made us into the Brazil of the West Country. Achieved promotion against all odds and would have kept us up if not for losing our most influential players.
Now where did we get Leroy From. Oh Yes. Gloucester City.! And they have players who could cope with league two football.

It is interesting to read the example of how 'Boris' has gained experience as a manager. Often its seems the criteria for directors' appointments of managers are 'played professional football' and 'played for the club in question'. Supporters are just as bad with calls for retiring or aging players to become managers or coaches by virtue of them merely being at the club for a long time. I wonder if anyone has seriously looked at the qualities needed to be a professional football manager.

Went to the Northwich home game and when they equalised there were Buckle Out banners on the Pop, we scored a last kick penalty and won the next load of games and there were IN Buckle we Trust banners at Wembley.

Got to love football supporters.
