IMHO the bloke is a poacher in the box and that is all you are going to get. So i'd question Lings decision to bring him to Plainmoor when we hardly ever chuck balls into the box. Like i've said the two goals i saw him score for us at home v vale and at hereford last season were poachers goals and we should be using thompson to sling balls in for him. No service to Jarvis and you may as well play with 10 men, no disrespect to Jarvis but that's all he is. Again, a strength in a player that is being blatantly wasted by misuse from Lingy. I happen to think Jarvis would get goals in a team like Chesterfield for example who throw balls into the area all day long.

On the evidence of Saturday v. Oxford, he's got a long way to go. he's terribly slow over the first three yards and hence is beaten to the ball every time!

Nonsense Phil, I am with kingsgull.

How can anyone criticise Heskey's goal-scoring record either? He got one in the 5-1 win in Munich...

I wasn't suggesting he never scores but look at his record, 27 goals in 206 league appearances is not good!

I think its a little harsh to judge Ryan Jarvis on his time at Plainmoor, as he simplt hasnt had an opportunity. He needs a run of 5-10 games before we can really judge him in my opinion.

Unfortunately for him its unlikely hes going to get that, injury to Howe forbidding, and therefore will probably end up in non league and score a shedload.

I see him a bit like McPhee, Dinger knew him to be a model professional who would come in and sit on the bench without complaining. I fully expect him to be replaced by another similar player next summer.

Its known as acute Constantine-itus.

You know the symptoms - a decent loan spell is followed by a contract offer and expectation from the crowd. What follows is a steady loss of form and increased frustration and tension. Normally the only way this can be cured is for the player to be "transplanted" to another club, where normally they will flourish.

Unfortunately this illness is highly contagious - as well as affecting Jarvis it has got to Poke and Bodin too, and to some extent Oastler.

We used to have an immunisation program, as clearly Craig Taylor and Brian McGlinchey were immune back in 2003/4, but those days are long gone.
Not just a Torquay problem, I see this happening more and more, but more like Carayol-itus, improving performances in the last 6 month of contract to earn a new one elsewhere. See Junior Hoilett's performances at Blackburn last season and at QPR this...

Matt The n00b.
He's not very good, end of story.

Let's see who is proved right in the end ;-)

Zebs bucked that trend too. Would love to have him back here. For all his scuffed shots, he was one of the most consistent and exciting players we've had for years.

Can't remember Jarvis doing anything that has demonstrated any impressive attributes.

Very innovative and entertaining post Jeff.

Oh and can't argue with it either.

People forget that Jarvis had previously had a very good pedigree. He remains the youngest ever goalscorer for Norwich City but it's very fair to say his career has taken a tumble. We need him to go out there and be thinking "I AM a good player. I CAN get goals". It's whether his mind is in that state, I don't think it will be.

Re: Ryan Jarvis

by AlexGulls » 07 Nov 2012, 20:47

I dont have a problem with Jarvis I think he's a decent enough player but he isnt a goalscorer. And with the tactics Ling like's to play he isnt suited to being a lone striker.
