Ryan Jarvis
I'm a bit disappointed with the flak that Jarvis has got recently from some on here. I think he is what he is and that is not a very good footballer but he is what we have and we've just got to get on with it. It's not his fault that when he has played many of the chances have fallen to players like Bodin who people stuck up for. He generally always comes on and gives it a go and he is capable on his day so i say let's give him support when he comes on and hope for the best. I thought he was a useful acquisition when we first got him and he got the winner in my first ever game at Plainmoor v Port Vale last season plus scored at Hereford on the last day so he can score goals if the supply is there. Things haven't quite worked out for him yet but i don't think it is all his fault and some of the digs are a bit unfair.
I did make a joke about him being 'sh*te' in the randomly bizarre Barnet matchday thread story but that was just for the purposes of the story and was done for a laugh. I'm not that harsh.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
I agree. In fact, Andy, I'm a bit like you were with Bodin. You want effort. Now, the last two times I've seen Jarvo, that has been missing. He came on at Rovers for Bodin (who was doing a lot of running). I was calling for the change, thinking Jarvis would shake them up. He had 30 mins on the pitch, touched the ball about three times. He did nothing for us, eventually losing the head of steam we'd built up and surrendered our position. Against Harrogate, he came on, didn't do anything.
I've never seen anything from the lad unfortunately, I'll still support him if he starts on Saturday, but my confidence levels will be very low.

So do you reckon that HIS confidence is low too? I thought he looked really useful back end of last season. If this is the case then we've got a few problems in the camp.
He looked ineffective most times he has come on away when i've seen him but that is because we weren't attacking so he never got a kick. I thought he did ok at Wycombe when he came on, had a really good shot from the edge of the box tipped over.

People forget that Jarvis had previously had a very good pedigree. He remains the youngest ever goalscorer for Norwich City but it's very fair to say his career has taken a tumble. We need him to go out there and be thinking "I AM a good player. I CAN get goals". It's whether his mind is in that state, I don't think it will be.
Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...
I think the main problem with Jarvis is he is suffering from that rare illness that only affects TUFC players from time to time.
Its known as acute Constantine-itus.
You know the symptoms - a decent loan spell is followed by a contract offer and expectation from the crowd. What follows is a steady loss of form and increased frustration and tension. Normally the only way this can be cured is for the player to be "transplanted" to another club, where normally they will flourish.
Unfortunately this illness is highly contagious - as well as affecting Jarvis it has got to Poke and Bodin too, and to some extent Oastler.
We used to have an immunisation program, as clearly Craig Taylor and Brian McGlinchey were immune back in 2003/4, but those days are long gone.

Very innovative and entertaining post Jeff.Jeff wrote:I think the main problem with Jarvis is he is suffering from that rare illness that only affects TUFC players from time to time.

Oh and can't argue with it either.

Zebs bucked that trend too. Would love to have him back here. For all his scuffed shots, he was one of the most consistent and exciting players we've had for years.Jeff wrote:I think the main problem with Jarvis is he is suffering from that rare illness that only affects TUFC players from time to time.

Can't remember Jarvis doing anything that has demonstrated any impressive attributes.

You weren't at Yeovil then, or Accrington at home last year, or almost any other time he gets more than 2 minutes on the pitch, up front on his own (which is a job for which he is simply not equipped). He's alright, he's not Rene, but given half a chance he'll get a shed load more goals than seventy grands worth of Bodin.

He's not very good, end of story.ferrarilover wrote:You weren't at Yeovil then, or Accrington at home last year, or almost any other time he gets more than 2 minutes on the pitch, up front on his own (which is a job for which he is simply not equipped). Let's see who is proved right in the end

Ryan Jarvis is not a goal scorer, he never has been a goal scorer and I suspect he never will be a goal scorer. He does however have other talents, playing in a 4-4-2 as foil for Howe I think he would become an invaluable player for us, sadly for him that's never going to happen.
I see him a bit like McPhee, Dinger knew him to be a model professional who would come in and sit on the bench without complaining. I fully expect him to be replaced by another similar player next summer.

Not just a Torquay problem, I see this happening more and more, but more like Carayol-itus, improving performances in the last 6 month of contract to earn a new one elsewhere. See Junior Hoilett's performances at Blackburn last season and at QPR this...Jeff wrote:I think the main problem with Jarvis is he is suffering from that rare illness that only affects TUFC players from time to time.

I think its a little harsh to judge Ryan Jarvis on his time at Plainmoor, as he simplt hasnt had an opportunity. He needs a run of 5-10 games before we can really judge him in my opinion.
Unfortunately for him its unlikely hes going to get that, injury to Howe forbidding, and therefore will probably end up in non league and score a shedload.
