Briscoe Terminated

Post by Orange Gull »

Just popped up on the club's Twitter feed that Briscoe has had his contract terminated by mutual consent. Bit surprising but he must have been one of our higher earners so hopefully we can get in a couple of replacements perhaps.

Big news from a big chap.

Never really saw the best of Louis. More than skilful enough to succeed at this level but never looked match fit or that bothered. He's probably on at least £6-700 a week and I can't see where he fits into our system under Nicho so a good move all round.

All the best Louis.

EDIT: I meant £6-700 a week not a month!

I wonder if his wage has already been used or if that free up the chance of further additions above the two loan extensions, Ajala, Harrod and the midfielder due to sign this week?

No Loss - Injured, overweight and did not try. Who needs that sort of player?

£600/month is £150/week. I'll say he was on close to ten times that. I know yours was a lip of the fingers, but it helped make my point.

Pleased about this. Always flattered to deceive. Under a manager who will either let him do what he likes or a real ball-breaker, he'll flourish. Under our succession of wishy-washy middle management types, he was always doomed.

I do feel a little sorry for him and I'm sure he'll do irritatingly well elsewhere in the Conference.

Is that all the remaining Knill inspired, ruinously expensive gang off the pay role now?

I believe you mean Hargreaves, who actually signed him.

Was Briscoe not the first of Hargreaves signings? Don't think there is anyone left from the Knill era?!

Surprised by this, but any money saved is great news for us. He's one of our senior players, better paid and has some quality on the ball, but I don't really know what his best position is and he's not as important to us as a senior player should be.

Getting rid gives us a chance to get a quite large (for us) chunk of the budget freed up for new arrivals.

Central and wide midfielders are the priority now, for me.

I'm sure there is a quality player in there somewhere but he needs to sort his fitness before anyone sees it again. A shame to see him go but I'm sure with our current situation the money can be put to much better use elsewhere in the squad. Probably get 2 or even three hungry youngsters for what I imagine he was being paid.

You know, I'd have had my house on him being a Knill signing. He seems to have been here so much longer than 18 months. Well, you guys know better than I do.

Is he the last of the big earners gone? Perhaps Youngy is on a wedge, but he deserves it. I can't think of anyone else from the Thea era who would have been on silly money who is still with us.

Young, Bowman and Briscoe were the only name signings Hargreaves made last summer. The rest were signed after a trial.

It's perhaps a sign of the constant cuts that every year we are referring to the year before as expensive. 12 months ago these 3 players were on 'non-league wages' and it was Knill's expensive 'league flops' that we wanted rid of.

Pleased to see this, to be that overweight and unfit is totally unprofessional, what I saw of him he has good feet but that was it. For the sort of money I've heard he was on good riddance, whatever he was paid for what he contributed would have been too much. An absolute f***ing wages thief! :@
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

I remember reading on this forum he was on £950 per week.

Kevin Nicholson is full of praise for Louis Briscoe for his cooperation in reaching agreement which will be very helpful to Kevin with further recruitment.

I liked Louis and still feel with another club he could do well. 9 goals last season but not a single goal this season sums up why this is a good deal for both parties.

It's no great loss as we never play him anyway BUT we have to use those wages to sign a new keeper, a left back and a midfielder who can actually pass to a team mate, if we are to have any hope of avoiding the drop. To me these signings are a minimum requirement as we have to ditch the SDL players that currently make up our embarrassing bench.
