Who would you start in goal?

Now Spiess has signed on the dotted line - which of the two keepers do you think should start the season?

Lavercombe for me. His performances at the end of the season warrants a start next weekend. Not seen Spiess other than highlights from Newport's youtube but I wouldnt say he would fill me with confidence.

Lavercombe can only get better with first team football week in week out.

I've not seen any of the pre-season action but from all the reports I have seen on here and elsewhere I think Lavercombe has to start.

I'll be very surprised if Spiess does not start as the regular keeper this season.

Lavercombe. Not spiecially impressed when I saw Fabian at Tivvy, but maybe he has improved with time and confidence.

By the way, Spiess is German for kebab. Hope he doesn't get a roasting this season

Not seen enough of either to make a call on this.

First impressions for me were that Spiess was a bit short and not big in stature so he would struggle with the physicality and high balls into the box. He didn't really get a chance to prove that wrong against the gargs.
Mmmmmm, beeeeeeeer.

That's pretty good going, especially when Spiess didn't play against Newport!

Lavercombe is currently the better keeper, in my opinion.

Absolutely dreadful signing, we signed another goalkeeper because rightly Dan at 18 with a handful of starts shouldn't be put into a situation where we are reliant on such a young lad to play a 46 game season especially with a new back 3/5 most of those similarly have little experience, so we sign a keeper with barely any more experience than Dan whose record is arguably worse.

The goalkeeper signing was a massive one for us in my opinion, we needed someone to come in 30+ who's played 100s of games either at this level or ideally League 2 to steady the ship and make us solid, we've failed miserably. If this was all we could do we may as well had just played young Dan and got a kid on loan from someone to sit on the bench.

I would like to see us start with Lavercombe. There's probably not much between them - they're both young, and will make a few mistakes, but as with Rice last season it's easier to accept from an 18 year old who might learn from them. Speiss is a few years ahead, but the extra experience is minimal and he's yet to establish himself anywhere. It would be different with a more established number one, but given a choice between these two I think we have far more to gain from giving Lavercombe a chance.

Lavercombe will play for a few weeks into the season and will then be transferred to a bigger club for a fee which will enable us to sign another GK and perhaps a striker or whatever may be needed.

Would love to see Lavercombe emulate Hart but that means one full season of first team football for us before he goes... ;-)

Whoops. My bad. :red: I guess i spent too much time in the sun at Truro last week, especially as he did start last weekend. Hard to judge him really as didnt have much to do but still think Lavercombe should be our number 1 keeper. Few people i've spoken too don't rate Spiess highly. Still, hope if he gets a chance he proves me wrong.
