Rice to be dropped

Post by lucy6lucy »

The Grimsby town match day thread seems to be a Martin rice thread. So should he be dropped for the aldershot match. It's a tough gamble, as the FA cup is going to be the clubs realistic money earner this season. So to put seabright in goal could back fire, but equally can we continue to allow rice to make howlers. A good cup run would help CH strengthen the squad.

If he isn't dropped Seabright must be REALLY shit.

Yes, I like the bloke but unfortunately he needs a spell on the bench and Kenny Veysey needs to drill into him a) to come off his line b) to boss the bollocks off anyone who finds themselves in his area.

Everyone has a right to an opinion, not having go on that score, however we're in danger of this getting out of hand and looking ridiculous, we're entering in to witch hunt territory now, and how does that help.

I've tried to put a view point across today, I didn't come on calling Ricey a twunt and suggest he should be hung from the nearest tree, so I was ignored, as said the club are in position where by the two keepers we have are what the club can afford, dreams of a super keeper turning up on loan can be forgotten isn't going to happen, Seabright is a young keeper, I suggest a very good reason why Dagenham cut him lose, no club lets a young player go unless they think he isn't going to fulfil his potential.

The club could have kept Michael Poke , anyone who thinks CH let him go because he was injury prone, or had his own loss of form is just plain daft, it was quite simple, we could not afford in any way to keep him , he earned far to much, all those who were slagging off Pokey and drooling of Martin Rice who was playing very well at the time seem have very short memories.

Martin Rice is the no1 keeper we're going to have for while I would suggest, we need him back in form and fast, knowing he had the support of the fans would help, this isn't aimed at the O/P but this witch hunt has got to stop.

I'll be at Kiddy and coming down for Eastleigh and I'll support anyone who wears the shirt but I don't see what's wrong with exploring the possibility of Seabright. I don't understand the stigma surrounding number 2 goalkeepers, last season when Poke was injured up stepped Ricey, what's to say Seabright can't do that?

I wasn't there yesterday, but I was at Telford and at Alfreton and I do think that Ricey could do with a week on the bench.

What I want to know and have asked the question before, is what does the goalkeeping coach do all week? For starters,Rice (and Poke before him) can't kick out a clean ball. Remember when Poke (with a tilt and turn) kicked the ball straight up the arse of back turned Pearce v Chesterfield? Then Rice kicks it straight up the arse of a Wrexham player. If bad habits can't be coached out and good habits coached in to our goalkeepers then (I ask it again) what does the goalkeeping coach do all week?

Oh yeah, on a matchday the goalkeeping coach puts in crosses. WHAT USE IS THAT WHEN RICE DOESNT COME FOR CROSSES DURING THE ACTUAL MATCH.

Sack the goalkeeping coach, he's worthless.

At least Rice isn't injury prone, unlike Poke.

I have no idea whether that is a blessing or a hinderance.

the joys of being a goalkeeper.

pull of a great save, keep a clean sheet it usually goes unnoticed........

drop a few clangers and because of your position you get (too much) stick................

I voted no for the very reasons Forever put forward. Time to get behind the lad and do our bit to help turn his form around.

People have very short memories. We just went four or five games without bleddy conceding!
Mmmmmm, beeeeeeeer.

Goalkeeper is such a specialist position - how is getting behind Rice going to do any good when he seems to throwing a couple of goals into his own net every week.
Going into this season with Rice as number one was always going to be a recipe for disaster and so it has proved.
I don't see how playing Seabright next week is a risk at all - so what if he lets a couple of sitters in - it won't be any different to what our first team goalkeeper has been doing for weeks.
Personally I would have dropped him after the Telford defeat. The goals he let in were farcical - especially the one he tried to tip over his own bar. A thirteen year old would have saved that one.

To say we are stuck with him, deal with it is frankly unacceptable. We might as well give up now if a player playing so badly is guaranteed his place all season. Its nothing personal, he just isnt up to the job and many supporters have always thought this.
I dont subscribe to the view we cant get a replacement. We have got Wakefield. If he is costing us money send him back and use the cash for a keeper. On the other hand if he isnt costing us anything then it proves we can get players for nothing if we try. If Rice remains in goal our season is over.

Brucie. I do hope you have some evidence to back up this reduculas statement. How many games have we played this season.
I have counted 19 goals conceded. in 16 matches. if i am correct. I went to the OP. opened up the fixtures list and counted the games myself.
How many clean sheet? 8. That's half the number of matches played.
How many matches where we have only conceded one goal. 4.. Now we have had a bit of a wobble. May i suggest that we are getting on his back just a little too early. And if we are maybe he is listening and its affected his form a bit. I know I would find my confidence dented with fans on my back. Let's be a little realistic here. Why is he our no.1 cos we can afford him. He aint that bad. If we had a better keeper we would be endangering our own chance of financial survival. We can only afforc Martin Rice. We cannot afford anyone else at the moment. The only problem I can see is that there isnt any comptetition for his place and it's so hard to keep at peak wthout that. Seabright is a young keeper who probably isn't ready to step up to the mark yet. So A. he isnt ready to play 1st team football unless it's an emergency which it clearly isnt at the moment B, he is not competition for Mr Rice at the moment.
So to give him some encouragement at the moment would do a world of good and no harm. To get on his back during the match wil do some harm. No harm in trying is there.?

After posting. I expected to be railed and ranted at. So i have done some research.
Bristol rovers Goalkeeper. matches played 17.. Clean sheets 6
matches where only one has been conceded. 6

Halifax. matches played. 18. clean sheets 8
matches with only 1 conceded 3.

Barnet matches played. 17. clean sheets 9.
matches where only 1 conceded. 4

Wide a woking. matches played. 16. clean sheets 5
matches where only 1 conceded. 8

Gateshead. Matches played. 17. clean sheets 4
matches played where only 1 conceded. 9

FGR matches played.17. clean sheets 5
matches where only 1 conceded 8

Torquay matches played 16. clean sheets 8
matches played where only one conceded 4

I suggest that the record be reviewed in a months or so time. Then after approx half the season maybe we can see if we are being realistic. after all. How many said we had to get promoted this season or they wont go again. How many said realisticaly we will be upper half of table at best then build on that for following season. another 7 league matches will be a good time to look and see if we are where we thought we would be or a little better. or whether your all a panic driven bunch. :rules:

Yep, time for a break. It's not the end of the road for Ricey, he just has to work to get back in the team.
