Exeter City say they are unable to sign any new players until August after the club took out a loan from the PFA.

Maybe they should sack off the entirely meaningless and no doubt bloody expensive trip to Brasil? With the WC being there, can you imagine what the cost of flights has been hoiked up to? Flying 25 people there and back, plus hotel and other expenses will be costing at least £50,000. All so they can play some friendly which will be attended by about 150 people and will net City about £4.50.
Imagine being on benefits and booking a trip to the Maldives and thinking that's suitable financial planning...

I think the article said there will be 600 people there. It's to commemorate Brazil's first ever international match which was against Exeter City. If football clubs can't do things like this then what is the point? We're just left the dreary drudge of day to day football life.
I doubt very much the owner fans have sanctioned this at the detriment of first team activities. Perhaps the trip has been sponsored in some way?

Cant understand views of some, the original game is part of Exeter City's history and certainly Brazil's........I for one wish them well and hope they have a fantastic trip. Why we feel the need to continually slate a neighbouring club who to be fair despite their financial problems are actually outperforming Torquay in every way is beyond me. No doubt if it was Torquay who had the opportunity to do something similar to commemorate some historical achievement it would be ok...........

I doubt it, people whinge that our board dare to invest their money in the future of our club, youth teams and grandstands on the like. There would probably be an implosion of negitivity if someone suggested we should go play an overseas friendly!

I remember going to see the Brazil v Exeter game at St James' Park some years ago. It was a fantastic day out and I got to see players like Dunga, Jorginho and Branco strutting their stuff. Let's be honest, Exeter had no chance but it showed the difference in class. A fully fit Exeter side, being taken the piss out of by some 50 year olds.

Now, they get the opportunity to celebrate it again and I don't really blame them either.

They're not outperforming Torquay in every single way. They're in a total mess, they're robbing (or borrowing from) Peter to pay Paul and spunking the cash on a jolly. Coke and hookers are a big part of my history, but if I'm brassic, I pay the rent, rather than the rent boy. To do otherwise is madness. I'm sure it will all work out for them in the end. There's almost no doubt that they'll get the Dog and Duck and the Queen's Arms in the first two rounds of the Cup, and Chelsea or City away in the third. They'll make another million quid, spend none of it on their hovel and be back in this situation in 2 years time having flirted with the Playoffs. It's a bloody disastrous situation and one which, once again, would be much better exploited by Torquay.

I actually feel sorry for the genuine City fan, decent majority of their fans, to be fair are some what hacked off over this trip. I believe they've been selling a package deal to their fans at £2k a pop on the promise of a number of high profile friendlies, so far only one club has agreed to play, and then Fluminense will only field an U-21 development side away from their main ground on something that looks worse than the acorn centre, City are trying to convince themselves this trip is self funding, haha, bit like the Iron lady boy trying to convince the general public the national debt is drawing down, not up, apparently their going fund this of match income shares and a tour dvd, 1 match that's going to be some dvd, and how many locals are going to watch Fluminense U-21 v Exeter City, in a stadium that wouldn't be able to field Iron brew league pub football, 600 my arse. They've always had delusions of grandeur up the road, penny is beginning to drop , a car crash waiting to happen up there.
