Bodin out for 6 months
Bodin out for 6 months
Seems that oaf of a tackle against the dirty Cobblers has done more damage than first thought.

Seems Hargreaves is keen to offer him something regardless but this further clouds and already difficult decision.

Bad news for young Billy, we can only wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery although 4-6 months out, possibly even longer, is the likely outcome.
What it does do though is mean that his stay with us will probably be extended, which may not have been the case with a fully fit and out of contract Bodin. It seems that the club are standing by him through this injury and of course no "other" club is going to want to sign am injured player, particularly one with such a serious injury, and so when the time comes and he has hopefully made a full recovery, you would expect him and the club to agree a new deal on reduced terms I would expect.

I think Hargreaves' comments are quite sensible, in view of Bodin being under 24 and the club having an interest in his future. One would hope that he could at least cut it at Conference level.CP Gull wrote:Bad news for young Billy, we can only wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery although 4-6 months out, possibly even longer, is the likely outcome.

A great shame for Billy Bodin. I hope that he gets back to fitness quicker than feared. That tackle by Ravenhill was one of the worst that I have ever seen, a disgrace. That is one of two reasons why i want the Cobblers to lose on Saturday, the other being Alan Knill.

See my other reasons on the matchday thread too!

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Very sorry to hear this, it sounds like a terrible injury. Billy is a nice lad and I hope he is back to full fitness and playing again next season. As has been pointed out this could change things as I'm sure he'd have been off in the summer. Unfortunately it hasn't really worked out for either party since his move became permanent. I feel the price tag has been a weight on his shoulders which meant he hasn't been able to reproduce the form he showed whilst here on loan. I also think the money has been used as a stick to beat him with by some fans. Some of the abuse I've heard and read towards him is completely unwarranted and quite frankly a disgrace. Yes he can be frustrating to watch but he is also the same age as Nathan Craig who doesn't attract any of the criticism Bodin has - again I suppose this comes down to the transfer however he didn't value himself at 70k - Swindon did and the club plus the donor paid.
I actually rate him as a player and he has still shown glimpses of what he's capable of, unfortunately it also hasn't helped his game that he's been surrounded by mostly poor players. If he does stay on next year I hope he can rebuild his career and show the qualities we all saw a few years ago.

Bodin has represented us for two years and i think if the club were to stick by him and see him through his injury and perhaps offer him a one year -prove it or move it deal then that would be a fair outcome and i don't see how Billy could have any arguments with that. He doesn't deserve the continued faith IMO but if he does get one final chance then we'll either have done even more money and wasted a starting berth OR he will eventually wise up a bit, realise that a few tricks here and there are futile unless they are productive and finally, finally show us what we have been paying for these past 2 seasons.
I think that is fair enough. Despite my jokes about Bodin being injured on another thread i genuinely don't want to see any of our players injured and i don't see how Bodin is going to get another club whilst injured either so i think it's the right thing to do to offer this one last chance. I'm torn between a rock and a hard place here because Torquay United FC are not a charity and when Bodin's contract expires injured or not it will then be none of our business what happens to him and we owe him nothing but that said, it would be poor form to chuck out an injured player onto the scrapheap. I'd like to think that we as a club don't operate like that.
I think it would be an immense mistake but against my better judgement (whatever that is!
) i think given the circumstances we should offer Billy the one year take it or leave it deal and hopefully he will return to full fitness and regain some professional dignity. Then we may see some tangible results albeit in the conference.

So have we mis-treated Bodin's injury? It was quite obvious that he wasn't the same since that shocking tackle but was still being picked and it seems that the root of the problem has only been picked up after a second opinion.
Hopefully he'll make a full recovery - this probably represents our best chance of keeping him.

Reported in could be 9 months now.
However it plays out i wish him a speedy and succesful recovery.

If it is more likely to be 9 months then I have a great deal of sympathy with Billy but we have little choice but to release him when his contract expires. I think when fans are finding it hard to part with money to pay for season tickets due to both the economic climate and the perceived way in which money has been frivolously wasted already such as Hawley's wages etc then it would be a kick in the teeth to chuck it back in their faces and sign a player who could be out for much of next season who has done nothing for us for 2 years.
If it's likely to be 6 months or less then like I've said in an earlier post, offer him a one year deal to prove himself but we surely cannot be seriously considering Bodin if Richinns comment turns out to be true can we?!!
I also wish him a speedy recovery but longer than 6 months and it would be madness.

You would think it is almost impossible now for us to offer him a contract if he is unlikely to play until well into 2015. With the cutbacks we will have to make we simply can't afford to be paying someone (let alone one of our higher earners) not to be playing.
We could offer him the opportunity to do his rehab here if he is settled with a view to offering him something when he returns to fitness, but it is awful timing for him when his next move was being planned.

He'll earn nothing if he leaves. He's not good enough to earn a contract elsewhere with a long term injury to overcome and a fee attached. If he stays here, he gets board and lodging and a modest "injured reserve" salary of a couple of hundred quid a week until he's fit. That'll be more than enough to keep him in silly haircuts and Godforsaken Nando's chicken "meals" while he sits in his pants watching Homes Under the Hammer for a living.
Once he's back fit and ready to go, he might just be the player we always dreamed he could be. If he's not, if his injury has cost him and what pace and trickery he had have deserted him, then it's a simple enough task to cut him adrift with our thanks for his best efforts.
Matt.
