I'm sure we have touched on this topic before, but I was wondering. Do you think it would be of benefit, to the Gulls, if we took over the "Away" end for home supporters, and gave over the "away" end section of the Popside to visiting fans? That way they could have the current "Away" area in BB with a terrace area opposite. The reasoning behind this is that we would always shoot towards our own fans, no matter what half of the match it was, or if we lost the coin toss, and were turned around by the visiting captain.
I was thinking about it on Sat. (Morecambe) when we were indeed "turned" around and played towards the family stand in the 1st half. We had 3/4 good chances, in the 2nd half, to add a match winning (probably) 2nd goal to our tally. Do you think that the players, who had those chances, might have been encouraged to do a little better had they seen TUFC fans (Rather than an empty or hostile terrace) behind the goal?
There are a few other clubs who do have "Home" fans behind each goal. One that I can readily think of is Sat. opponents AFC Wimbledon. Just a thought.
"Thing's turn out best when you make the best of the way thing's turn out."
I think that would be a good idea. At the Exeter match, their fans were doing their upmost to put off Hawley for his penalty. What's the biggest opposition crowd we've had at Plainmoor this season? 300?
Unfortunately the club will always close the away end completely to save stewarding costs
It's a great shame as in my opinion it's a very short term view, in what is, after all an entertainment business.
I actually believe allowing supporters to move between the popular side and the away end behind the goal would add significantly to the atmosphere and, in time, the crowds at Plainmoor and far outweigh the cost of extra stewards. It would make the match far more fun, especially for younger fans who like to sing, and make Plainmmor far more intimidating for visiting players.

When I was a player, I always shot away from the target.
It was called birth control/family planning.

I like the idea of the away end being open for home fans when we play teams like Morecambe who only bring enough fans down to fill BB (well they only brought 26.....and many don't fill BB if only it's open, but you know what I mean). However, the thought of the away fans being in the Popside, I don't like. I know this would never happen because the club save money by closing the away end, but this would definitely help the players I think when shooting towards the Babbacombe End. I noticed against Morecambe, they were a load of stewards in the corner of BB, I think at times like that we need a bit of common sense. Do we have any problems here at Torquay? 9/10 we don't. Would anything happen against 26 Morecambe fans? Very, very unlikely. Again, I know this would never happen, but I'd love it to.
if you can persuade 2000 extra fans to come week in week out then they'd open the away end for anyone who wants it, when we're only getting 2000 anyway theres not a cat in hells chance of them opening it for all but the biggest games
keep working on friends and family to see the greaves/hodges miracle unfolding and you never know!!
