i have to say the atmosphere was shocking today, what happened to the singers on the half way line? there must be more noise in marks and spencers on pensioners day, come on somebody tell me what going on did i miss something, the players must have thought they were playing behing closed doors

No drum. No singing. It was an awful day with regards to our support. We don't seem to have enough people willing to start any chants. I do try and managed to get one "yellow army" going which spread around the ground quite quickly. It seems there is a desire to make noise, but we haven't got the individuals who can really get the fans doing a good supportive job.

thing is gull ive been going since 1965, i have always gone home from games with a sore throat , anybody who knows me will tell you that i try to get the popside going everyweek, i get so fustrated that people wont get behind the team, i normally stand towards the family stand end of the popside and some weeks they get going down that end and believe me i give my all, so feel free me old mate to come and join us , but please dont say why dont i give it go, i do every game home and away.

I'm glad it's not just me who noticed how dead it was at Plainmoor this afternoon. There was a period in the second half when it was basically silent and, as alluded to on the matchday thread, it felt like I was at a pre-season game.

I understand the frustration that we failed to convert any of our chances, and that we were hardly playing free-flowing football of great quality. I also appreciate we've hardly had a lot to cheer about, with only 3 wins out of our 15 league fixtures at home in 2013. But surely we can have more patience, clap the players when they've created a chance, or at least stop the pathetic, belittling cheers when Bodin (and Harding today) was substituted?

yes well said chris, its a disgrace when fans jeer there own players.i didnt think billy had a bad game, but even if he had i certainly wouldnt jeer him, support your team through thick and thin, the fans need to do there bit, take a leaf out of the pompey fans book.

It's odd, RR is forever telling us he doesn't stop singing for an hour and a half, yet I stand where he says he stands and I don't hear a peep from anyone anywhere near me. (Insert winky smilie)

It was quiet today. Is it anything to do with our drummer now being a steward?

first game of the season for me today.

i was surprised it was so quiet, although when that happens its usually when we are under pressure/ playing badly or the game is poor in general. trouble is, this is when the team needs us to sing, shout encouragement and support and get behind them the most. the team is visibly bouyed and gee'ed up when the crowd sings their support and gets behind them and its supposed to unsettle the opposition (hence, fortress plainmoor). there were really only a couple of attempts at songs today and just as they got going they broke off. it is still early in the season and the atmosphere showed that, it was a bit like a pre-season friendly all round.

fair enough if anyone says, "well, why dont you sing a few songs then".

that central area towards the back of the pop is traditionally where the "singers" congregate and where all of the songs start from and the atmosphere at plainmoor is generated. when you stand there you know that, you know what you are there to do. you know what what your job, your role and responsibility is.

when i was a young buck i was one of the boys that stood there. once you lot on the pop start the rest will follow.

you cant really start the songs from bristows bench or the family stand, it comes from the pop and then hopefully other areas get involved. i would join in if it reached the area where i sit, honestly . im too old now to start all that though and would look a right kn0b, especially in a seating area.

come on chaps, your team needs you.

i dont know if its just me with the rose tints on again, but im damn sure we used to have a lot more songs than just "yellow army", in fact that one is just a more recent one. back in the day, "come on you yellows" was more prevalant, followed by "T..O..R..Q..U..A..Y - you know the rest, or at least you should. then there are ones of individual players, but then again we dont really have anyone who stands out enough at the moment.

then theres my personal favourite, read the verse at the bottom, "you are my torquay" (sunshine), guys its our signature tune, its our song and i dont think i've heard it for a few years. its awesome when you hear the pop in unison singing the team home to victory with that one, honestly its the best ever.

if the pop starts, the rest (apart from the oldies, but you never know), will follow.

I regularly give it everything every away game and on more northern trips it is extremely difficult to create anything due to the lack of numbers and also a lack of people wanting to sing. I've not a problem with people not wanting to sing, they can do what they like, they've paid their money and they takes a choice. However, I have noticed that when I first started going to away games there was a lot more people and a lot more atmosphere even at northern outposts. I feel cheeky commenting on the atmosphere at home games as I've only been to 3 these last few years but it is very poor I have to admit but having said that, the majority of teams in this division have poor home singing support. Everyone knows it is much better away from home. Northampton last week had about 12 lads stuck on the end singing on a consistent basis and that was it for their home support. I wouldn't necessarily criticise our fans for not creating an atmosphere at Plainmoor because I've seen myself at away games that other teams' home support isn't any better generally speaking. We have what we have and we do what we do with it and that is fine by me. I just love singing and getting involved, it makes me feel part of things personally and not just a passive observer but like I said, each to their own. No probs.
