Bored as there isn't much going on at Plainmoor really, but I stumbled across this video.
Would you say we've had a better striker since his departure? I'd forgotten how good he was that season..

Nobody even comes close IMO Nick. Absolute legend. Clinical finisher and always in the right place at the right time, oh and made some great runs too. I loved his partnership with Gritts, some special memories there.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
I think there were massive issues with his work rate and attitude, but certainly in terms of pure ability I can't think of any better. Such a shame for him that he chose to move, it destroyed his career, imagine if he'd stayed here, where we could be as a club and the player he could have become.

Got me thinking... never saw this but always heard tales about the 'almost' goal winner at the death!
Forgotten some of these players (Matou-Pinto). Annoying that Gerald Sinstadt kept referring to Bayes as Bains!

definitely along with paul dobson the best striker i have seen in my time watching torquay.
dobbo was more of a poacher, right place, right time.but god could strike from distance, beat a few players and put in some great runs.
couldnt really fault his workrate, when we first had him he worked his b@lls off, making runs, winning the ball and tracking back. we havent had anyone, anywhere near since.

You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

I'm almost certain that I read an interview with DG after the game, and the second goal he scored that day he'd been loitering by the dugout getting an inhaler when the ball broke so he ended up putting the ball in the net still with the inhaler in his hand.NickGull wrote:Bored as there isn't much going on at Plainmoor really, but I stumbled across this video.

Awesome player at his best, shame he squandered it away.
As Andy says, nobody since has come close. Such a balanced, composed and skilful finisher.
Rodney Jack was fantastic too, but Davey G is the best I've seen in a Torquay shirt.

"Also, stands aren't sentient."
Agree Paul Dobson, Robin Stubbs & Rodney Jack are up there with Davy Graham. Other strikers who 'did the business' and come readily to mind are Dave Caldwell, Steve Cooper and if you're as ancient as me, Sammy Collins.
