another barren transfer window

Post by bixieupnorth »

so thats that then, no incomings, but more importantly no one has been pinched from us.

i think a few months ago we were worried that rene would be taken, but luckily he hit a scoring drought and remains a gull, lets hope we can now get everyone who could attract a fee signed up beyond this summmer

on the downside, i think a few of us were hoping for a strike partner, a decent winger and maybe some cover at left fullback to help the tired looking nicho out

hopefully we have really got all these things within our squad already, now that macklin is returning to the team, and jarvis and danny seem to have brushed off their recent injuries without too much ill effect
still keeping the faith

Been a season ticket holder for a while now, so far this season it is fair I have been a less than happy Gulls fan, stood on the popside and felt bored, frustrated and let down over some of the performances turned out by the team week in and out, which is so unlike me.I can normaly find the one positive in 1000 negatives but really struggled with it this term.

That said I was not to upset that no players were signed yesterday, I think it will far better for the club to wait until the summer wait to see what out of contract players do not want to stay, then have a good look at the budget and prehaps a little re-think.

Think the best thing now is to see how the next month pans out, if the team achieve good results and mid table safety is looking likely then indeed leave well allone, if it does look like the team are going to be pulled into a dog fight, then shove principles and have a look at bringing in some support from the loan market.

Yes! from 7th. Feb the loan window will be open!

I can't understand why people thought that we would be signing more players in January, it is quite obvious that having battled & beaten the team that was in 3rd. place away from home ( Exeter) last monday that our team are able to compete in this league. I don't think that there was ever a plan to strengthen the squad, & spend more on wages. Ok we will most likely not make the play offs, but money has to be spent on the training ground, & the gate money has not being anything special. It is likely that M.L. has been given the task of improving the younger players ( Yeoman, Macklin, Halpin, Thompson etc. ) & building a promotion chasing squad for next season. I would think that if there was a serious injury to one of the key players then M L will have funds to bring in a loan player if he considered that one was needed. No point in paying out wages for "bench warmers " I.M.O.

I think people forget that Morris was probably on a fair bit of money. I'm not claiming to be 'in the know' but just as he had been successful before joining us and even had experience higher up the leagues I think it's fair to assume he does have a fairly nice weekly wage (for us!).

I'm not bashing Morris, I just want to remind people that a fair few Torquay quid has been in the injury room this season and we're always likely to be a club where we need good luck with injuries in order to mount a promotion bid. With Macklin coming back now and Morris due back in a few months (?) then we caan just hope our squad can stay fit for next season!
Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...

Agree with most posters in that we have spent on the infrastructure and perhaps this season we should perhaps write off and build properly next season. Whilst i accept this i just think it's a shame as we are within touching distance of the play offs even given our patchy form and inept showings in some games and i think we are capable of at least trying to cling on in there with the squad we have. Add someone like Logan or Tai ( however much a backward step ) and it could be the difference in a few extra points and needn't cost the earth.

I just say go for a play off spot if it's within reach If we go for a play off spot we may finish just above mid table. If we go for mid table we may end up in a spot of trouble the wrong end. It looks like we're going to be safe financially and in terms of league status so let's just spend the next 3 months trying to gain as many points as possible by being positive and actually showing the drive and determination ( like at Exeter ) that is within us to get a play off spot against the odds. Why can't we do it? It's not out of the question and i would hope Lingy would be aiming for them rather than having a ready made excuse if we finish mid table and therefore not testing himself and the players.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
