The Big Screen!
The Big Screen!
Was just wondering if anyone knows what has happened to the idea of the Big Screen? Was it just going to be a Christmas thing that didn't get enough interest to make financially viable or did they just not get round to doing it?
And also, does anyone know if there are still plans for adding one to Plainmoor?
Cheers

Going up till the end of the season (when it goes up) think i read that on the OS
Pretty sure I read somewhere that they hope to have it in place for the Northampton game on the 28th of this month - after initially hoping it would be in place for the festive matches.

Oh no! The stealthy health society. No doubt they think the screen could be tripped over. Or it Could fall on our heads. Or we could get so excited by being on the screen we could fall over ourselves or each other, Or Matt and Alan.
Or The play could be stopped cos East Enders could distract the players.
Or Whats on the screen could be more interesting. (Thats assuming we have a match where through an aberation of mind, our squad takes a day off and lets the other team whoever they are (Not Rovers hoepfully) score 3 goals before Half time).
Or. The Colours could be too bright.
Or Sky come on and Jeff Stelling asks Chris Camara, "whats the score" and the reply is I dont know. Have they come on. what's the sandwiches like. and we all fall about laughing and bang our heads on the barriers as we fall over ourselves.
Or Someone electrocutes themselves putting the plug in.
Or They realised that putting it immediatly behind the turnstiles wouldn't allow fans to get in anyway.
Or. hanging it from a crane could cause us all to go to sleep as it swings in front of you all. You feeel sleepy you all want to go to sleep and give all your money to Matt.
Oh yes. I can see now thats a good one. Top ho guys, good guess. Ban it.

So basically, we are allowed to demolish and rebuild an entire stand which involves several tonnes of concrete, steel and paperwork which is, at it's minimum, no more than 10 metres away from fans, probably less, but can we plug in what is effectively an outdoor TV? Hell no, you could kill people with that!
I'd love to see the amount of forms that a Health & Safety Inspector has to sign when he starts a new job, ironically it would probably cause another health and safety hazard when 25 trees are chopped down to print his contract onto.

big screen is a load of bollocks anyway. Up to now we've been able to keep score and time ok, also heard the half time scores without issue. Excessive cost for absolutely no point.
different in sports like Basketball when 100 plays 95 but in football they are a waste of time.

From the quotes i've heard, the benefits of the screen are more around sponsorship and advertising revenue rather than for the supporters.royalgull wrote:big screen is a load of bollocks anyway. After having a conversation about this a while back with someone who worked in the "Big Screen Business" as he once put it, it was quite interesting how quick money can be made back. These figures are from 3 or 4 years back and have probably changed since then (lowered, at least)
A screen can cost anywhere between about £10,000 up to around £1,000,000 - depending on screen size, resolution and whether it was HD. (I guess now it would be 3D) Supposedly, anything over about £200,000 usually ends up going to Dubai or Las Vegas, rarely many other places.
He wouldn't tell me how much individual screens cost, but supposedly the Wembley ones paid for themselves within 5 England home games (About a year at a guess). Big Premiership clubs can earn the money back in around 6 months and smaller clubs like us are likely to take between a year and two years.

It's naff all to do with us, the supporters, and has everything to do with being able to sell advertising. It's just a revenue stream, as well as being able to show replays of incidents and other things which we can't do.
Matt.

Oh. Forgive me. I thought it was a great big square thing. Does that mean it's a revolutionary spherical thing with hair all over it

The gulls are going up
Something else that'll make the City apes jealous when they visit(along with sanitary toilets, a stadium that isn't about to collapse, and a very good football team!)
I cannot remember a period when TUFC released such a constant stream of good news. Without being the least bit gloomy, enjoy it peeps, because nothing lasts forever. I truly hope the public vote with their feet next season, and show their appreciation for the ambition and commitment shown by our board.
