[OS] REPORT | Tonbridge 0 – 1 United

Post by TorquayFans.com »

Tonbridge Angels 0 United 1 (Young 35′)   United made it back-to-back away wins on Saturday, as Jordan Young’s strike sealed all three points at Tonbridge. The decisive moment came in the first period, as Young’s fine run of form continued with the goal that ultimately earned another potentially vital victory. For the third successive match, boss Paul Wotton named the same starting eleven, although there was a returning face on the substitutes bench, as Jay Foulston took the place of Cody Cooke. Both sides enjoyed decent spells of possession ahead of United taking the lead on 35 minutes, with ex-Gulls loanee Jack Wood coming close to breaking the deadlock against former temporary club. A ball into the box found Matt Jay, and although his effort to make it five goals in five games was thwarted by the woodwork, Young was well-placed to follow up on the rebound, with United’s No.8 smashing the ball home to make it 1-0. Image Far from sitting on that advantage, Offrande Zanzala went within a whisker of doubling the lead before the break, before the half-time whistle left The Gulls having to settle for a single-goal lead at the change of ends. That pattern continued after the restart, as Torquay set about taking the game away from the hosts. United’s first corner of the game just past the hour mark so nearly brought about some reward, with Liam Vincent clearing off the goalline after Jay threatened to pounce. There were appeals for a home penalty with eleven minutes remaining as Mo Dabre hit the turf, but the officials weren’t convinced, as Wotton’s side maintained a measure of control over proceedings. Image It wasn’t until deep into injury time that James Hamon was seriously tested, but when his moment came, the United stopper proved more than equal to the task, as he produced a fine parry from close-range to seal his side’s win. Next up – a return to Plainmoor, with Salisbury the visitors on Tuesday evening.   TONBRIDGE: 1. Matthew Rowley, 6. Ronny Nelson, 8. Taylor Maloney (3. Bailey Akehurst, 68′), 10. Gianluca Botti (21.
