Why We Won't Make The Playoffs

Post by Trojan 67 »

Have you seen the end of season fixtures ?

Home v Port Vale . . . . (currently 6th)
Home v Wycombe . . . .(currently 3rd)
Away v Burton . . . . . .(currently 22nd)
Home v Chesterfield . . (currently 1st)
Away v Rotherham . . . (currently 5th)

I'm only joking, of course we'll make the playoffs with 3 out of 5 games at home. ;-)

The only blip in our run of clean sheet wins will be the 0 - 0 draw at Burton.

Before we get to the last five fixtures, there's the immediate matter of the next two games.

Each game as it comes, Shrewsbury being the next game.

We'll see where we are after that one. :-D

We'll both be there on Saturday Robbo, I'm not sure how many sweets will be available though or who supplies 'em. ;-)

Currently in eighth place with 51 points. Our two games in hand on Gillingham include our next game (Bury) and Cheltenham home Tuesday week.

Then there's the little matter of our date with the FA. ;-)

It certainly is a tough finish to the season, but as others have suggested, that may just suit us.

Interestingly, looking at the League table for this time last year and you look at Dagenham & Redbridge down in 11th position having played exactly the same number of games and achieved the same number of points as we currently have ... and we all know what happened to them!

They finally finished in 7th place with 72 points and I'm pretty sure that a similar number of points to that would be enough for us to seal one of the play off spots this year. So, just 21 points required from our last 11 games ... it can be done! :scarf:

Wouldn't that be 24 points from 11 games.

Surely we'll have 3 deducted.

Remember this time last year when we were looking at the forthcoming fixtures and thinking that we were in the cart. Shrewsbury, Northampton, Rochdale (!!!!), Aldershot etc all in or around the playoffs yet we went on an excellent run...

Can be done but still have to think its unlikely with the possible loss of three points....

Personally, I don't see that happening.

I accept that they (the FL) would be able to do so within the rules but they would, I think, be setting a precedent should they take that course of action.

I can't ever recall a team being deducted points that they haven't "gained" through playing an ineligible player. As we lost the match I think it would be an injustice if we were to receive anything more than a fine, probably a pretty heavy one mind you, and a "suspended" sentence!

I guess we will find out one way or the other by the end of this month though.

I think it's because we're on a warning already from previous admin errors (I believe), so it wouldn't at all surprise me to see 3 points docked from each, and thats that.

Now that the Bevanator has got the run started, we could make the automatic spot.
Curiously I did the BBC prediction thingy the other night (30 mins of my life I will never get back) and my final table ended with us in play offs on 74pts
After tonights amazing result this would need 5 wins and 5 draws, so here goes...
