Elliot was close to going back last week so this may well prove to be true.

I think you have got too used to seeing big target men up front. Elliot needs service from the wings, like dare I say, he got in Buckle's team.

In the present line up he stands little chance and is wasting his time at Torquay....but he is not to blame...more inept tactics

Elliot is best running into space , in those positions he is strong and effective, usually winning corners and throw in, rarely loosing position. Who the heck has given him any pass other than a hoofed up head height fast ball?

He is best out of the club and joining a footballing team

It has not been Benyon's fault. He is a "sniffer" and requires service which he won't get from our midfield who lack the guile to put the ball into the danger areas.

Couldn't believe at the outset that the new manager made the same mistake as the old - playing Jarvis on the wing and replacing an overlapping full back (Leadbitter) with carthorse Oastler. I feared for Howe and Benyon when I saw that and my fears were realised.

At least Benyon kept trying right to the end - Howe gave up as soon as we went behind and, as usual, got himself booked.

Don't get me wrong MidDevon, to stay up in this division we need two new fullbacks, two different wingers, and a new striker. His lack of goals is to do with the service, but his inability to contribute anything to the team is solely down to the fact that he is a limited footballer, and a poacher. He doesn't add anything to a team unless he's given the ball in the 6 yard box. We won't do that for him, and he won't contribute to our attacks and general play. Therefore it's best for both parties to realise it's just not going to work.

I think we all knew this when we signed him on loan but we were so desperate to get someone in we were happy about it. What's the excuse of Taylor and the board then? Desperation also.

sorry modgull, but howe getting booked was poor reffing, the guy did nothing wrong, he went in for a tackle and obrien made a complete meal of it, then seem to recover very quickly, didnt deserve to be booked whatever else you make think of him.

Benyon was poor when he was here last time. He had one good season but has been found out since. I would imagine his football league career will end this season, just like that of TUFC.

i agree he has not been his usual self of late but the tackle today was fair, the bloke tried to get him booked and it worked , it happened right in front of us and most people were seething as obrien should have been booked for faking it.

Shame to read some of the comments here. Much the same happened when Gritton came back - people have short memories. There's no need to speak so harshly on players who worked hard for us over a long period, and in Elliots case, scored a lot of goals for us.

It's fair to say it's not worked out well for Benyon on his return. He's clearly struggling for fitness, and having not played regular football for so long, that's hardly surprising. But if he can get himself into shape, he's a proven scorer at this level.

He's not match-fit, is lacking confidence due to lack of games and has walked back into what I imagine to be the most dysfunctional dressing room in the football league. He probably deserves to be cut some slack.

If we could replace him with a couple of proven strikers, with a desire to come and fight at the bottom of the football league I might agree, and advocate sending him back. But our inabilty to bring anyone else in in the last 3 weeks would suggest that isn't likely to happen. With that in mind, given the choice between Elliot and Ryan Jarvis, I'd take Benners everytime.

He's struggling currently, and looks a shadow of his former self. But if he could nick a goal in the next couple of games, he's capable of going on a scoring run. He seemingly enjoys being here, and he's a hard worker. I doubt we'll get any better at this stage, so it might be worth offering our support to him. It might help.

I agree Fonda, my Hooray wasn't negative in any way.

I'd rather have him as an option - he can contribute in training, testing Pokey and Rice, and he can aid the other forwards as we try and find some goalscoring consistency.

Plus, he is increasingly important as Rene looks more and more likely to get suspended through his yellow card habit.
