One piece of great skill won us the game today.
It was the same when I was down in Devon and watched us play Morecambe, he had all the build up play and was dangerous but fluffed his end product. We paid big money for him, but it's easy to forget he's only 20 and is still learning the game. On his day he's our best player.

He has taken enough criticism of late (some of it deserved and some not) but he deserves credit tonight and hopefuly he can kick on from here as talent wise he has to be the best prospect in the current first team.

Agreed he's improving, from where we were stood everyone thought it was a free kick (the 'terrace' is appalling) I'll have to catch spotlight to see his trickery up close

He has it in him no doubt but he was live on sky in a pressure game. Will he do the same away at Rochdale for example? I know it's a cynical view but it's a valid one. There is no way in the world that one piece of skill in front of a nationwide tv audience is going to sway me into thinking we now have a player on our hands. If he do what he did tonight then he can do it against the other sides and if he doesn't ( which he hasn't yet ) then i'm sorry but he still not what we are looking for.
On tonights evidence then i will give the lad the praise and support he deserves for his performance, that is only fair and only right but it galls me a bit when players like Saah, Downes, Poke, Howe and others have been putting in superb performances for the most part this season whilst Billy has been faffing around and do they get threads on them singling them out for praise?
In a nutshell, well done and a great night for Billy but we need that and more for the rest of the season now to in some way atone for going awol for 4 months.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Andy, you're right. The others mentioned don't get their own threads....but then Billy has had his fair share of negative ones so probably deserves a "good" one

I agree to a certain extent Scott but without wanting to incur the wrath of the joyous yellow faithful, he has won a penalty that Howe converted and then done pretty much what he is paid to do for the rest. He hasn't terrorized the Exeter defence, he hasn't made Krysiak make some quality saves to stop him getting a hattrick and he hasn't laid on chance after chance for others with his dazzling approach play. So in effect we are singling him out for praise because he did the same as the others but happened to win a penalty on top. It's a but spurious to be having a thread praising him for that but i will concede that there were encouraging signs that the penny could be dropping.
I think the reason why Billy has "had his fair share of negative ones" as you put it is because he hasn't done much positive and on many occasions he hasn't even achieved the bare minimum requirement for payment so i believe that he has warranted consistent critcism. When some of the other players have been poor they have been a darn sight better than Bodins poor if you see what i mean?
Anyway, that is as best as i can put it really and that is just what i honestly feel. Tonight he did really well and he deserves credit ( as they all do ) for getting us the win.

He HAS deserved it all season. At least not within earshot at the games but he has been truly appalling.supergulls wrote:As I said he hasn't deserved it all season but tonight of all nights when we needed a win the lad did well as for the other boys such as Saah, Downes, Mansell etc they defended impeccably !!

I think Jermaine Renee Howe might have something to say about that!Gulliball wrote:On his day he's our best player.

Sorry Austrian drunk posting from me again and bloody predictive text.. Noted and edited !! Of course he deserved the stick he has received this season. He has been poor, but the lad showed glimpses tonight of the player that is in there. He now needs to do that more regularly.

Bill won us the penalty and not the game. Rene won us the game along with the defence who stood firm and didn't concede. Billy merely contributed his bit like the rest of them did by getting the penalty.supergulls wrote:Credit where's it due the lad has took some stick and deservedly so but just a flash of brilliance tonight won us the game bill megged him up so bad it was embarrassing !
I agree with your last post though supergulls. It is encouraging and now we need to see him kick on from this.

Oh and don't drink and post. Many of us have come unstuck doing that!
