Macklin is head and shoulders (literately) above Stevens (Macklin can go past a fullback on the outside and get the cross in).

If Macklin can get his head together, then be afraid Stevens, be very afraid. ;-)

Macklin hasn't gone past a full back since he has been here. You are insane.

He went past both Exeter full-backs time and again last pre-season, as usual you speak without any basis to your conclusions.............

Not disagreeing with that smiffers but if his attitude had been right and he'd had a run in the side I still think he could have been a good player. To suggest that he's never gone past a defender is ludicrous.

He seems like he wants to prove a point by his twitter updates. Hope this continues as I am from the thinking there is an excellant player in there who just neeps to apply himself to find it. Likely he will still be with us this year so hope this is the kick up the arse needed for him to nail a place down and have the run of games he wants to show himself.

Obviously his attitude is dire, but pre season against exeter he looked dangerous, couple of city mates were asking who he was after the game. He has still got to have the most pace of anyone in our squad (even including the dropped Taiwo 'im pretty nippy but never run' Atieno), but final product has always been an issue, bit like a lidl's arron lennon. annoying really as with Rene in the middle we could do with someone to butcher a defender with pace and throw in some crosses.

Wooooooo - Macklin went past a defender in a pre season game. Fantastic. He is crap - a waste of space. Why do you think he's on the transfer list

And how would you know, Terry? It's well documented that you didn't attend many games last season, it wouldn't surprise me if you've never actually seen him play ;-)

Why was he given a 3 year contract? He has ability that's why. I might take your opinions more seriously if you could speak from first-hand experience instead of making assumptions.

I'd be very interested to know if Macklin has a tutor of some kind at the club. I see from the recent Twitter conversations that Manse was a tutor for Eunan and I was wondering if Macklin would benefit from working with someone with a good head on their shoulders. Maybe teach him how to drop the attitude that seems to get posted on Twitter every time a decision doesn't go his way and just get on with his job.

He has undoubtedly got ability and I have no doubt that with the right support and belief that was shown to Stevens this year, he might well turn out to be a fantastic player at this level. I would like to see him given a chance of some kind, it might well be that given a shot at a first team place will give him the boot up the backside to do something with his career.

So I have never seen Macklin - thats bollocks. I have seen plenty of him. Noone saw much of him last year though did they? - thats because he was sat in the stands on bloody twitter - doing what he is best at. Last two times I saw him? - At Cheltenham when he was useless, and at Tiverton (last pre season friendly), when there really was a chance of staking a claim for a place.
He made one or two runs but spent the rest of the time poncing around.
God knows why he was given a three year deal - if he was racehorse he would have been dope tested by now. If he has ability I have never seen it.

That's because you know nothing about football brucie, or at least, if you did, I haven't seen it yet.

Cheltenham in the JPT?! Macklin was really impressive, beat the full-back for fun and tracked back and made some great tackles. Really hoped he would get a run in the team after his display, but for reasons we can only guess at, he didn't.

Its well documented that Macklin didn't play many games either. Why is that? Buckle also signed some dross during his time here. 3 years on Macklin was a strange one and even though he gave him that time, he rarely picked him and Ling has never really picked him. What does that tell you about Macklin's ability?

he has never impressed me. I read about his potential but 2 and half years later we are still waiting.

His problem is his attitude not his ability. Ling has made that quite apparent.

I assume Brucie's referring to when Macklin started away at Cheltenham in 2010/11. He was nothing short of useless that day.

There's no need to guess at the reasons he hasn't featured more - Ling has made it pretty obvious Macklin's attitude is appalling. All the more frustrating given his obvious talent, as shown in his superb performance in the oft-mentioned Exeter PSF.
