Cambridge fans
Totaly bored went trawling through a few fan's forum's, came across this thread on amber army http://cambridgeunitedfc.proboards.com/ ... 291&page=2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Think it's fair to say a percentage Cambridge fan's wanted Lingy to fall flat on his face, just as we did with Buckle, heard so many different side's to the story of what happen at Cambridge W-R-T to Lingy who know's what the real truth is, just thought I would highlight a few quote's from this thread, personly think some are so bitter towards him, they simply can see the job he has done here with us, and just out of interest, say Buckle had managed Rovers in a different way to what he did here with Torquay and had been sucsessful with Bristol Rovers, would us Torquay fan's still be trying to highlight' issue's with Buckle, or would we just have accepted he had moved on to bigger and better things.
What do you expect, the man is a walking book of excuses when his team's come up short.
My answer to this would be, after going 8 games with out a win , Lingy never made a single excuse, said the answer to the problem was already here changed the team about, and we never looked back.
As much as they managed to get on a good run of form, we've also seen the other side with him and the complete inability to proactively arrest a run of defeat
Does this guy screw his own argument or what ?, tells how Lingy has no idea how to arrest a run of poor results, but admits in the same sentence, that he did just that at Torquay.
Lee Mansell Tweet suggests Ling has started to clear out the youth and may lose the dressing room
Not on twitter myself, has anyone actually seen a tweet from Manse suggesting Martin Ling was about to lose the dressing room?
It wouldn't really surprise me in the slightest, as he was never a real fan of promoting youth in his time with us.
This one really made me chuckle, is this the same Martin Ling who offered our youth players Kirtys macKenzie and Naill Thompson pro contracts, also brought 19 year old Nathan Craig throught he development squad, now signed a 2 year deal, and offered former youth team player Ashly Yeoman a contract extension, yep no idea how to use young players.
Thoughts ? If you wish.

Excellent stuff forever. I don,t know the ins and outs of what went on at cambridge but it is clear that many have not been able to see the success that Martin has brought us this season. Sure we ultimately failed in our bid for promotion but overall the season was a resounding success. The one interesting point IMO was made by an Orient fan on this forum before the season kicked off and he said that the bizarre thing about his stint as orient boss was that they could go on a real run of form out of nowhere and then hit a brick wall and then go on another run of bad form with no indication when the runs would begin or end. That appears to ring true with me in terms of how our season panned out. We started ok then were totally shit and bereft of any ideas during our first bad run when we lost at 10 man bradford, a shocker ar shrewsbury and southend and at home to gillingham. Then out of the blue we hammered Afc Wimbledon 4-0 and never looked back until the last month or so of the season when our form collapsed again just at the business end. I am anxious to see if this trend continues next season. Martin has worked wonders for us and i personally think that his unwavering trust and faith in a small squad cost us jn the end. AIt is easy to say with hindsight but i think we all know that with the addition of a couple of tap in merchants to the squad would have seen us promoted. Some of our squad just weren,t good enough in the end but i would have taken this season all day long. Martin will learn from this and we will be promoted next season should we hang onto the likes of eunan, bobby, et al. The only players i would be happy to leave are tai who has gone already, stevens and mcphee. Keep the rest and add and we,re in business.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

It's rare that a WHOLE thread is devoid of any sense or quality what so ever, but F'rev has managed to find one.
What a bunch of bitter arseholes. Face it Cambridge, we deservedly beat you at Wembley, the sorry state your 'massive' club is in is really not Dinger's fault.
As for the idea that L2 is a terrible division, well, yeah, I'll grant you, it's not the Premier League, but it's a division above where you mugs are.
There is so much ill informed bullshit on there that it's hard to know where to start, so I shall continue no further.
Matt.

Whatever happened to that Cambridge fan, Dettol I think it was or something like that? He needs to tell his silly mates to get a life. Mind you, they might be Cambridge fans from the Isle of Ely and that would explain the genetic intelligence deficiencies. It is time for them to move on, silly bu**ers. I hope we get them in the Cup, and taken them apart.

Ely is like a town of MENSA members compared to Chatteris. I still find it funny that I have never met a Cambridge fan outside of Cambridge and I only live 20 mins down the road.
Either they have no fans or they're too embarrassed to admit it.

Sort of understand why some Cambridge fan's feel the way they do, they see Martin Ling as a manager who took them from being a promotion challenging side, to a team that became midtable at best, Martin Ling has never hidden behind his failure at Cambridge to be fair, but has allways said it was not all his fault.
Now the fantastic job Lingy has done with us here at Torquay kind of confirm's to me, that what Lingy says about his time at Cambridge not being all down to him, is very much the truth, and for Cambridge fan's to admit he has been a succsess here so far, would be in away them confirming it aswell, so this was not me , trying to put all Cambridge fan''s in a bad light.
Also part of this is down to finding out, how would us Torquay fan's reacted if say Buckle had gained automatic promotion or got the play-off final with Rovers, would we really have come out and said credit where it's due fair play, or we have copied the "yeah but" attitude being displayed by some Cambridge fan's.

When I said Isle of Ely, I meant the Fens, sorry. That part of the world confuses me. I remember running a course for some GPs in Norwich some years ago, and one Fenland GP giving me an eye-opening description of what passes for normal family life in some parts of the Fens. Mind you, another one assured me that some wags write "NFN" on the notes of the newborn, "Normal for Norfolk".gullintwoplaces wrote:Whatever happened to that Cambridge fan, Dettol I think it was or something like that?
