Potter for Bevs?
Potter for Bevs?
Don't get me wrong - I am a big Scott Bevan fan but I do worry he is prone to big mistakes in key pressure games.
Bevs looked very nervous and the kicking mistake he made almost cost us big time.
Even in the warm up this was very evident with his practice handling - with Potter repeatedly telling him "do not even worry about it" as he kept dropping the ball in the net etc etc.
The pressure at Shrewsbury's place will be even greater than Saturday and you would expect Bevs will be called on a hell of a lot more than Saturday also.
The question here is would you swap Potter for Bevs or would you stick with our number 1?
I have thought about this and find it a very hard choice to make and glad I do not have to! - I wonder what other opinions are on the subject?

I stood up for Potter when he took some real stick in his short spell as first team keeper, however i would go with Bevan Friday night.
To be fair to Bevan it was an awful back pass,to me rather than trying to be clever and keep posession Bevs should have stuck his boot through it and got rid, against chesterfield as we all know Bevan was nothing far short of brilliant ,performance's like that should give him confidence,i would like to see him use his hieght and command the box more anything high across the 6 yrd box ,come and get it he is taller than most in this league should not be a problem.

Bit of a non-question in my opinion. It would be detrimental to the team to drop a Keeper at this late stage of the season.
Maybe one day, Carayol will find London...

I wouldn't change it..but
Bevan's kicking has never been his strongest part of his game but right now he looks a total liability with the ball at his feet. Could have taken a touch and laid it left but you can tell his confidence is edgy that he didn't want to take that touch, he worries me.
Also being the goalkeeping geek that i am I noticed Bevan has changed his gloves on Saturday. That's also a big call and obviously something that's been playing on his mind. He has always worn uhlsport gloves since he's been here, he was wearing Mitre ones on Friday. Again i wonder if recent errors have been on his mind.
As much as I want him to have nothing to do on Friday and we go through easy he probably needs a game where he makes 3 or 4 blinding saves which he's capable of no doubts just to get his confidence back.

In our F.A Cup match against Crawley he saved two penalties under what must have been immense pressure. Ok we lost that match but he showed what he can do. I think he lacks a little of the confidence he had then, he gave a little wink before the second penalty which I loved, and I'd like to see that back. I think the fans should get behind him to give him that confidence. We know he can pull off some great saves, have some faith.

Some of the saves that Bevans made this season have been absolutely superb, the save against Lincoln was one of the best I've seen.
I thought he did ok on saturday, yes he made the error that nearly cost us a goal, but did well to get what I thought was a crutial touch to forced the Shrewsbury player to pass to his team mate. Apart from that he wasn't really tested much.
I saw Potter at Aldershot and I thought he was very edgy and lacked confidence. I'm sure he's an excelent goal keeper, but TBH, I feel more confident of a result with Bevan inbetween our sticks than Potter.

Na, na na, NA NA NA NA, NA NA NA NA, TORQUAY!
Fair play to Potter - he was extremely positive towards Bevs in the warm up and his encouragement for the number 1 to do well should not go unnoticed. Typical of the team spirit at the club which has been rewarded by the performances on the pitch this year.

Bevan for me.
Potter isn't nearly as good in the shot stopping area. But his distribution is better. Although i think Potter cost us Aldershot away.
However, i would like to see Bevan communicate more. His lack of authority and communication cost us our mistakes. Although I wouldn''t choose Potter in the last two games because of what Bevan can produce. For example two excellent penalty saves and the multiple other first class saves at crucial times this season.

Half the time Potter comes in for a lot of stick for his performances & I think he has the talent but has been desperately unlucky when he has played for Torquay, as every game he's seen to have made a mistake.
He was rated BSP top keeper a few campaigns back & was outstanding for Cambridge when they held us to a 0-0 draw.
However, you can't always say Bevan goes missing for the big games as he was superb against Crawley (of course those penalty saves too) & Chesterfield etc. & I trust him to do the business up the Gay Greenhous New Meadow or whatever Shrewsbury call their ground now.

But Bevan is the better keeper, even if his kicking is park standard.

Bevan all the way for me. Apart from that one one kick that they nearly scored from and that kick that went out the ground. He didnt do much wrong on satuday.
Look at some of the prem keepers they are making massive howlers. Bevs is doing a good job and should keep with him.
His height will be important as i can see there win lots of corners and set peices on friday.
