Jon Gittens
Sad news that Jon Gittens has died, at the far too young age of 55. Played for us for two seasons and was, in my opinion, a beast of a defender. Pretty sure he punched an opponent in one of his first games, but could be wrong!!
RIP.

Very sad, top defender. Tough old school centre back. Maybe the best defender I have seen play for us.
If I remember correctly he elbowed Raddicoui against West Ham on his debut. He went off with a broken cheekbone. We won the game 2-0 I think?? A story retold in Harry Redknaps book.
Thoughts with his family.

Very sad and way too young. Just looked at Harry Redknaps autobiography which has a very funny section on the elbow incident. Harry was not too impressed with his new Romanian signing after an impressive 1994 world cup and 96 euros. John Gittens is a TUFC legend!!!! RIP!!

I went to that West Ham game. Răducioiu came on the second half..I remember being amazed at the size of his calves. And the Gittens absolutely flattened him, with an elbow. To be fair it was a pretty shocking 'challenge' and you can't really blame Redknapp for going mental (as he did).
