Reasons to be positive

Post by GulldenBoy »

Chesterfield haven't won an away game in 5 outings

Chesterfields current run is LDWLW, not amazing

Win lose or draw against us and Chesterfield will probably have to win their final game against Gillingham to win the title

Chesterfields last 6 home games - LWWWWW

Rotherham sound like they've given up: http://www.rotherhamadvertiser.co.uk/sp ... scott.aspx

Rotherham haven't won at home since Feb (7 outings)

Rotherham's current form is LDDDL

Accy play Barnet this weekend - Barnet's current form DWLWWD

Stevenage away to Northampton - Northampton have only lost 1 of their last 5 games

NOW LETS ALL BE POSITIVE!

This has been a good season so lets be very happy about it, whatever happens  I know I am. :) :) :)
It's great to be up the top end and having a real go for it instead of the bad old days of sweating on other results going our way and having a radio glued to the ear whilst watching some of the dire stuff we used to years ago at Plainmoor. I have us winning 4-1 on the predictor on the last day at Rovrum on the ploughed field in the souless Don Valley Stadium so thats how good I feel about it so CMON YOU YELLOWS :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: :scarf: Great season, great entertainment!!

Well said oxgull.

Supporting Torquay United has been and always will be a bit of a rollercoaster ride. That's why we love the club so much! We have to remember that we have a very small squad, with a large contingent of loanees. We are essentially punching above our weight with the squad we have and I for one think that whatever happens over the next 2 games, we have had a highly entertaining season with value for money.

We are all probably thinking about the "what if.. this had happened".. that goal had gone in etc... but that is in the past now and we have to make sure Plainmoor is full to the rafters on Friday so we can do our bit. Whatever happens - C'est la vie! I wouldn't mind betting though that knowing Torquay there will be one or two interesting twists in this sage before the season closes on 8th May..

Lets lift the gloom that has descended over the last 24 hours and get behind the team.

After having time to look back at our season after yesterdays 3-3 draw, I must say that this season has surpassed my expectations. I thought finishing near the top 12 would have been a reasonable target to set ourselves, and full credit to Paul Buckle and the team for getting us around the play-off scene.

I think on reflection, whether we're in the play-offs or not, it has been a very successful season. For those who are thinking of going to the Chesterfield game on Friday, get yourselves a ticket and get down to Plainmoor. I'll be there and I'm looking forward to the match now!

Now more than ever, we need your support to get ourselves in the play-off mix come May.

110% support from minute one to ninety.
Non stop singing.

Forget the Royal Wedding, there are more important things going on down in the Bay. :scarf:

Also, forget the point deduction, whats done is done, we've witnessed many matches where we've dropped points when we shouldn't have.

I still think it will be between us and Stevenage as to who gets the final play-off spot. All we can do is win both our games and hope that's good enough to get us into the top 7.

If we can't do this the easy way, then we'll do it the Torquay way, and we all know that the Torquay way is bad for your health.
Na, na na, NA NA NA NA, NA NA NA NA, TORQUAY!

I remember after we lost to Aldershot away most people thought our chances of making the play offs had ended so what ever happens I think the lads need a lot of credit this season.

If we're cherry picking stats, Northampton haven't won in 18 and as good as we have been, we are 15 points (that's 5 whole wins) behind Chesterfield.

This is going to turn into another of those 'you can prove anything with statistics' thread.

That said, regardless of the numbers, I still think if we win both games, we make the playoffs. There are too many teams in this division with something to play for and the teams around us (and ourselves) are nowhere near good enough to count our chickens until they have hatched. Evidence us v Burton, Gillingham v Barnet for the idea that anyone can beat anyone in this division. The teams around us will almost inevitably drop points, they have been winning on days when we have been drawing, it stands to reason that they will now draw while we win, which is why we have an almost identical number of points after so many games.

If we fail to garner sufficient points in the next two games, we won't deserve our place, since we were in pole position as recently as 10 days ago and now we have thrown away that advantage. Albeit those around us have had more than a little help from two disallowed goals which have doubtless cost us 4 points in 3 games, but that's football and sometimes, you have to beat the referee as well as the opposition.

Up the Gulls, little bit of luck and a lot of playing like we have so often this season and we will sweep aside both Chesterfield and Rotherham, claim 6 points from 6 and hopefully, a fully deserved playoff place.

We've hit the woodwork 27 times. If even 10 of them had gone in, we'd be above where we are.

The amount of points we've conceded late on must be 20+ by now, which is the reason why we won't go up.

The squad aren't ready for L1 just yet, but should we hold onto everybody aswell as adding Stanley, Oastler & maybe Robinson, we'll be a force to be reckoned with next time around, in my opinion.

Have no clue why lots of people on here are being negative, claims that the playoff spot has been ballsed up are rubbish - it's still all to play for just as it was before the last two games.

There's a high likeliness of other teams dropping points so we just need to give it our best shot and try and get the best results out of the next two games.

Also need to really get behind the team on friday, there's a large Chesterfield following coming down and we need to do our best to counter that.

It's been a fantastic season and we've come a long way, now let's just do our best to make it even better by giving it our all in the last two games and, as supporters, getting behind the team as best we can on Friday night first, then we'll take it from there. Time for everybody to come together and try to finish the season on a high, hopefully prolonging the season as a result.

COME ON YOU YELLOWS!!!

Hi Matt,

See your point but we only need Northampton to hold out for a draw.

In line with some other posters on I hear I now believe we sneak in with 4 points from the next two games (by no means easy of course)

Was just trying to add some positives as everyone seems to be focusing on the negatives.

Hey, Gullden, don't get me wrong, I am positive, I see no good reason why we won't qualify, we always seem to match the level of our opposition, we're useless against useless teams and brilliant against similar, so these matches should favour us.
NTFC however, are crap and have been all season, they are the whipping boys of the division and are one of the few teams (perhaps Stockport and Lincoln being the others) who deserve to go down for being useless and against whom I would fancy any other team to be virtually nailed on winners.

For me, there are no negatives in wherever we finish this season, other than wherever it is, it should, really, have been higher. As others have mentioned, we have chucked down the bog dozens of points this seasons, we would be top by miles had those 'hit woodwork' have gone in and it does seem to me that we have had far more than our fair share of referees who do not like yellow shirts (or black).

Just flicking through my record of the games, we lost to Reading after 121 minutes, drew with Crewe away having been 2-0 and 3-1 up, lost to bury at home having been 2-0 up, lost 2-1 away to Morecambe having been 1-0 up going into added time, 1-1 at home to Gills - 87th min equaliser, 2-0 up at Cheltenham - drew 2-2, 'the Northampton incident' and now thrown away a 2-0 lead against Burton. That is 16 points straight away without taking any of the other 'slightly late' goals or any of the woodwork incidents or our deducted point into account. We could, and perhaps should be much higher than we are and therein, I believe, lies the difference between us and those above us. None of them is better, I would argue that a couple are appreciably worse, but they have held on to leads and perhaps just benefited from a late goal or two, which is something else which we have failed to do (excepting Gills away, Nico 90+5). A prime example is Norwich, who have now scored 12 goals in added time and it has won them the points which separate them from the team down in 8th or 9th.
