It's a Cup!

Post by Bloggy »

I see we've been drawn away to Bideford AFC in the Westinsure St Lukes Devon Cup!
26th Sept - 7.30pm and should we beat them, away again to either Tivvy or Tavvy in the next round.
Possible run out for the bench warmers and youth.

Let's hope that the FA Cup provides a little cash this season? Winning the 4th Qualy is eaqual in prize money to winning the first two rounds of the FA Trophy!!! I'm not sure there's even the chance of a bag of ball if we were to win the St Lukes?

FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round Sat 15 October: http://www.thefa.com/thefacup/more/fa-cup-round-dates
FA Trophy First Round Sat 10 December: http://www.thefa.com/fa-trophy/more/round-dates

We appear to be one of the few clubs not competing in the FA Youth Cup this season; presumably we don't have a youth team.

However, Torquay United Ladies are away to Keynsham in a League game on Sun 18 September..

Currently on the wrong end of a 2-1 half time score. Williams (10).

An interesting mix of players. We had Robba, Nicholson, Chaney and Williams playing, but also three 16 year olds from Torquay Academy and when Gareth Law comes on for Robbie Herrera you know you're struggling for numbers.

Some fringe players getting game time and Williams scoring is probably as good as it was likely to get.

Nicho fielded a young side and went a head through Williams but Bideford came back into the game when Robbo missed his kick from a ball rolling toward goal making it 1-1 Bideford then went on to win the game 3-1.

Interesting post match comment from Nicho ...

A little bit disappointed by some of the more senior pros. I think they could’ve put a bit more in and tried to have helped those young lads more, but overall it was worth doing.”

Now, I wonder who he could mean given that the only other senior pro, other than himself, was Brett Williams .... surely not?

I think it's time Nicho and Williams just accept that it hasn't worked out and move on. Disappointing as he was very much a "marquee" signing in the summer - but despite Nicho being big on character it seems that this was one he got wrong. I think we were all pretty happy with most of Nicho's signings (given our budget) during the summer but given how things seem to be turning out with Williams, Lathrope's ongoing (it seems) injury problems and the performances of LRT .... well it hasn't worked out as well as he hoped I would imagine!

Club in disarray on and off the pitch. No leadership on or off the pitch. That sums up the state of affairs.

Lets face it it was a youth team with three experienced players that including the manager, Gerring who struggled, with Williams and Nicho the senior pros. Chaney was included but where was Lathrope who needs games.

Williams came alive when the ball was about but little else.

In all Nicho looked and played like a pro. and if he's got doubts about playing himself he's the best we've got and he looks leaner than a few years ago.

Bideford were let back in the game early on and played well but they had lot of players rested.
