Given the choice would you want them next season?

Post by kevgull »

I guess CH is looking at his current squad and wondering who has done enough to warrant a contract for next year.

Below is a list of personnel of which I have formulated an opinion as to whether they should be with us next season. I would have possibly added Ives to the list however having only seen him play 4 times and have yet to make up my mind.

Chris Hargreaves - no

Martin Rice - no
Tom Cruise - no
Aaron Downes - yes
Dale Tonge - no
Krystian Pearce - yes
Angus MacDonald - yes
Courtney Richards - yes
Courtney Cameron - no
Jordan Chapell - no
Ben Harding - no
Luke Young - yes
Toby Ajala - yes
Ashley Yeoman - no
Elliot Benyon - no
Louis Briscoe - yes
Ryan Bowman - yes

Answers on the assumption there would some sort of reasonable budget available, if not some of these would have to be kept.

Chris Hargreaves - No
Loved him as a player and I know he had a difficult job when he came in but I expect much better than what we have witnessed this season. It's academic anyway as we don't have the money to get rid of him.

Martin Rice - No
Tom Cruise - No
Aaron Downes - No
Dale Tonge - No
Levi Ives - Yes
Krystian Pearce - Yes
Angus MacDonald - Yes
Courtney Richards - No
Courtney Cameron - No
Jordan Chapell - Maybe
Ben Harding - No
Luke Young - Yes, but if we get offered a considerable sum in the summer then I think we would accept it gladly.
Toby Ajala - Yes
Ashley Yeoman - No, he offers occasional sparks of brilliance but he has failed to land a starting place under four manager now.
Elliot Benyon - No
Louis Briscoe - No
Ryan Bowman - Yes
Duane Ofori-Achaempong - No

That leaves a lot of room for Hargreaves to bring in new players. If we haven't seen an improvement in our fortunes by this time next year then I would say, unfortunately, that we part ways. No idea who else would take the job though.

We should reserve judgement until the season's end.

Between now and then, the players are playing for their footballing futures, and it's only fair that we should give them every support and encouragement to do so.

To do otherwise would be self-defeating, or do you really want them to completely give up now and run the risk of us slipping into the relegation zone?

The squad and team can certainly do better and can recover their early season form and move us up the table into at least the top half.

But threads such as this one don't help the cause.

As things stand currently:

Chris Hargreaves - Yes (Give him a chance with what will be 100% his squad. A second season hoping he has learnt a lot from the first.

Martin Rice - No (Will never be accepted by the fans and had a poor season compared to last)
Tom Cruise - No (Time to realise training ground form is different to the real thing)
Aaron Downes - No (Great guy and love his heart but he is not the player he first was when he joined us and makes too many game costing mistakes)
Dale Tonge - No (Enough has been said on him already)
Levi Ives - Yes (Although needs to sign a contract which is unlikely!)
Krystian Pearce - No (Does not want to be here then get rid)
Angus MacDonald - Yes (Rash at times but worth another year)
Courtney Richards - Yes (There is a decent player there - just bang out of form and low in confidence)
Courtney Cameron - Yes (I still think he could be very good - just gets lost in games. Give him another year and hope he learns)
Jordan Chapell - No (Really had high hopes when he signed but has not made it and doubt he will. Bullied out of games too often)
Ben Harding (who) - No (Enough has been said on him already)
Sam Chaney - No (Not going to make it judging by this season and the fact Hargreaves will not trust him when we were short in midfield)
Mickey Parcell - No (Same as above)
Luke Young - Yes (No-brainer)
Toby Ajala - Yes - (Worth another year)
Ashley Yeoman - No (Time to realise he is not going to cut it at this level)
Elliot Benyon - No (Sorry to see his return turn out to be such a disaster. Time for all to move on)
Louis Briscoe - Yes (but have a clause that he turns up fit and in better shape than now otherwise bin him)
Ryan Bowman - Yes (Gets much criticism but decent player at tis level and will score goals if provided with service)
Duane Ofori-Achaempong - No (A handful at times but beyond awful at others)

As I posted on the 'Excuses' thread yesterday the team's first priority is to get to 50 points as quickly as possible to ensure Conference Premier football next season.
I agree that over the last 13 fixtures of the season many of these players are playing for their football futures otherwise they will have to consider following Seabright in a job outside football. Every summer, and it grows every year, there is a long list of unwanted professional footballers.

I understand your sentiments unfortunately all we hear is how good they are in training. All apparently chomping at the bit in order to gain a place in the Saturday squad.
At the end of a game CH tells us that "nobody has died" and that family is more important!
That's not what we want to hear from a manager, we deserve more than platitudes don't we?

I could not give a flying pig how mid training has gone, I want to see some heart, endeavour, initiative, tactical nous, teamwork, character which are all sadly missing on match days!
