Danny Woodards

Post by friendlygas »

Don't know if it's true or not but there is a rumour on our site that you have Danny Woodards on trial? If you have I would just like to say that if you can keep him injury free you have a League 1 quality defender there. The only reason we released him was due to the injury record which he really was unlucky with over the latter part of his career with us. In his first two years with us he was Championship quality and pretty much a regular part of our team and I am sure if he hadn't broken his leg then he would have left us at the end of his contract for a Championship club. As it was he had no choice but to stay with us and we extended his contract but unfortunately for us and him during the next 2 years it was a run of bad injuries and he also lost his brother in tragic circumstances.
He is a great guy and a credit to his proffession and I just hope that he can prove his fitness with you and you will have a real quality player either at full back, central defence or even midfield.

Reassuring to hear (provided this actually comes of something), when we signed Aaron Downes I think Chesterfield fans said something similar, not that he was championship quality, but more than he was completely injury ridden and we'd be lucky to see him play. And it turned out he was relatively injury free and a quality CB in our first season with him.

Pay as you play contract only as our budget can not afford any Sickbay rangers!
We have been lucky with Downes, not so, with the likes of Priso.

There's a man with a long memory!
Can you remember Sako's goal away to the Gasheads?
Beautiful day out!

Great day, had a meal and a match deal with several Gasheads from work.
They started the match by asking me "when are TQY turning Dave?"
Finished by me and my boy going bonkers in the main stand.
Remeber Disley bottling a challenge on Sako, you could see what was going to happen but didn't quiet expect that.
Watch Rosenoir get buried by players then suddenly remember himself lol

... Not convinced that there is, or indeed ever was, anything in this "rumour". I think it may be a case of people putting two and two together and coming up with five!

It may well have come from someone convincing themselves that the "mystery trialist" seen training with the squad at Goodrington last week, and captured in a photo that was featured in last weeks' Herald ... was Danny Woodards (rather than a lookalike?). Whilst there was a certain similarity facially, I always had my doubts as neither the skin colour or the hairstyle looked much like Woodards to me.

The "trialist" was apparently introduced to us by Guy Branston via his allaboutballerz academy, but given the news in the online version of the Herald this afternoon that we have a French centre half trialling with us, and has been for the last ten days ... It seems far more likely that the mystery figure was in fact a guy by the name of Olivier Gueguen and a "Google search confirms (to me at least) that the guy in the photo is indeed this guy.

So, probably nothing in the Woodards "rumour" I would suggest.
