I've always enjoyed your commentary whenever I get chance to listen, Steve. My vote is that you do it however you want to do it. You volunteer your time to do it, so do it whichever way you see fit.
Luke.

I'm with you when you say Rice hasn't cost us 10 points this season (although even you have to admit he's cost us a few) but then you go on to include Downes with two other players as (quote) 'costing us our league status and more points this year'. Yes - it is all just opinion but really ...... are you being serious ?? Week after week Downes is included amongst the five best match players on this forum even though he's playing in front of a goalkeeper whose coaching manual must include no. 1 rule - 'goalkeepers must never come off their line'.
Downes costs us goals literally every week at the minute, it's forgotten about because they aren't glaring errors most of the time but he's so slow and doesn't read the game at all. He is good in the air and he's good for 5 goals a season at the other end but that is it. Barnet's first goal was tapped in by the guy Downes should have been marking, at no point did he sense the danger that the ball might be flicked on and at no point did he pick the lad up who tapped it in, either before the throw was taken or after the flick on, by the time he reacted he had tapped it in.

Ricey got caned for Grimsby's second goal but that was partly because of Downes again not reacting fast enough to the ball and dealing with it, Ricey put himself in no mans land when he should have stayed at home but Downes gave him a decision to make because of his own hesitancy, FGR's first goal was headed in on the penalty spot I would ask where my best header of the ball was? he also gave away the pen on Saturday i believe? It's not just him,l ike I say playing Tonge for 12 months has absolutely killed us both financially and on the field and I still don't see Cruise as the answer at left back.

It's just my opinion, I don't particularly rate him, I think Angus and a fully focused and fit Peace would be our best combination but I don't think we're going to get the latter of the two possibly again!

I do agree that Ricey hasn't been at the top of his game over the last 6 weeks but if you look at the 'errors' they haven't always cost us points, definitely some but not 10.

If you look deep enough you can make arguments for things that have cost us points, Ricey or the keeper is usually the easiest one but like I've mentioned I think others have been consistently worse than him for 'costing' us.

Try not to curb your enthusiasm steve, theres nothing wrong with a bit of over exuberance or passion. Its better than listening to a couple of people drone on in a monotone where it seems obvious they couldnt give a monkeys about what they are commentating on, this happens on Radio Devon often . Even listening to Talksport, BBC Radio 5 live, BBC MOTD etc , Sky or ITV, there are commentators who talk absolute b0ll0ck$, couldnt care less and they hardly talk about the game, you can hardly tell whats going on.

At least when yourself and a few others like Dave thomas, chris Fleet, Paul Mulhearn etc are on commo it is a bit interesting, we can tell what is going on and there is a bit of decent insight and analysis. When you are in the public arena in any form, even as small as local radio football commentaries you are always going to get a few people criticise, even though you are doing it to help out and you love our football club somebody will still always have a pop.

Keep doing what you do, you are doing it well. You have kept improving since you started, with Paul you make a good commo team as you bounce off each other, that moment when Luke young scored his " greatest goal ever" winner against Wrexham was pure radio gold.

Trust me nobody is as over the top, irritating and twattish on the radio as Gordon sparkes.

:)
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.
