Crawley's finances....
Excellent article on the Guardian today regarding where the money is coming from for Crawley. Not yet another article sucking up to 'little Crawley'. Enjoy....

I am willing to go to the Far East and ask 1,000,000 people to name an English football club. If even one of them says "Crawley Town", I will eat my own gentleman sausage. Big, rich investors buy Manchester United and Chelsea, they do not buy Crawley **** ing Town. We need only to drop down to the level of Newcastle United to find the point at which wealthy foreigners end and fat northerners begin. They do not buy CTFC because they have never heard of CTFC, I'd be amazed if, before today at least, anyone in the home end at Old Trafford would have named Crawley Town as a football club.
Looking at the amounts and the people involved, it would come as absolutely no surprise to me (or anyone else, for that matter) should it be revealed tomorrow that it is all one big house of cards, a hall of smoke and mirrors where none of the money really exists except on paper.
**** ers.

Gits. Gits. Gits.
But yes, something isn't right. They've tempted players from leagues above who didn't need to make that drop yet but apparently don't have the highest wage bill in the conference. What else would have tempted them if not money?

Dodgy and Evans - shock!
Makes you sick seeing them and him at Old Trafford but football will have the final laugh and hopefully as a result Crawley Town will be nothing more than a quiz question.

I think anyone wishing to see the end of a football club just because of who is in control at any given time is totally wrong.
Remember back to when we had Roberts in control? What if he was similar to Evans? How disgusted would you feel if fans of other clubs were wishing we would collapse and cease to exist?
People in glass houses etc.

i think dave that our fellow posters are questioning the way the club has got where it is - as you and others have said their fans are ok and complimented us and our club.Southampton Gull wrote:I think anyone wishing to see the end of a football club just because of who is in control at any given time is totally wrong.

there is no room in football for underhanded, devious people, and when fans of a club are questioning whats going on then it is obvious there is a problem somewhere.

I don't want them to fold, as I suspect there are one or two decent Crawley fans around. On another note did anyone else notice that they droped their sponsors for the day for "The sun" newspaper? Does this just show what type of club Crawley are? Anyone know any thing more about it? As surely they can't just drop a sponser like that, can they?

You miss my point. I fully understand and agree with those that question those running the club, what I DO NOT condone is those wishing the club fold. I've not seen one Crawley fan yet come out in defence of Evans, I've seen plenty of them condemn him and his actions. I hope those in charge at Crawley get what's coming to them but not at the expense of Crawley Town FC. I have just as much disdain for all those wishing the same thing happens to Argyle.
I think most fans would welcome investment in their club allowing them to achieve their dreams, but I hate the thought of any club ceasing to exist just because they end up being controlled by less than savoury people.

If this is directly relevant to my comment then I have not made my feelings clear through my original postSouthampton Gull wrote:I think anyone wishing to see the end of a football club just because of who is in control at any given time is totally wrong.

To clarify - The Crawley fans that are, and have been true to their club and loyal servants for many years deserve their club to still exist.
However Crawley Football club at present does not represent those fans or the clubs real potential.
I want Evans and Raynor, along with all the players who are just their for a pay packet, along with all the 'bandwagon' fans to get what they deserve - and when they do football will be better off for it.
I do not want to see Crawley to fail to exist however - just represent the level that they can aspire to in an honourable fashion.
This, however, might not be a plausible outcome and Crawley Football Club will have to return from the ashes as things have gone to far currently for them to be able to survive once the money income dry s up (for whatever reason) - it will be like Plymouth Argyle x 50!

That's what I take exception to, Rich.
I hate everything Evans and Raynor stand for, I despise their current chairman for employing them, I dislike the notion that they're keeping their supposed overseas investors a secret but they've met the criteria set out by the Conference so not much can be done about it........yet !!
I hope the club survives the inevitable fallout and their fans still have a club to support when it does ultimately happen.

I loathe what Crawley, Evans and co. stand for but would never want them to go under as the only people who would suffer are the genuine fans and their local community. However when the sh*t hits the fan I will have very little sympathy for them.
If you're referring to Mike Ashley, he is actually a fat southerner!ferrarilover wrote:We need only to drop down to the level of Newcastle United to find the point at which wealthy foreigners end and fat northerners begin.

If there do turn out to be financial irregularities and the same people are involved again, I think it's about time for a lifetime ban from football. I genuinely hope Crawley are not too badly effected if it does eventually happen. Besides, I'm pretty sure the FA will be watching Crawley like hawks at the moment, it will happen if it is going to happen.
Luke.
