Questions .......

Post by tomogull »

It's the time of the year for SATS tests and GCSEs (good luck to anyone taking them) so I thought I'd ask a few questions of my own. There are four questions that have been bugging me and I wonder if any of you lot out there know the answers, especially those who claim to be 'in the know' -

!. Has any work started, or is planned, to investigate the drainage problems under the new Grandstand ? If it is being kicked in the long grass, we shall have the same problems next season.
2. There has been a fair bit of criticism on the Forum about the Seale Hayne training pitch. Has the improvement work on the pitch been completed and if so, is it now fit for purpose ?
3. Is the Torquay United Supporters Trust (TUST) still in existence or has it been wound up? I haven't heard the Trust mentioned for months and months ....... and my banker's order is looming shortly !
4. What happens to the money raised by the 50/50 draws? Is is simply 'swallowed up' in the day-to-day finances of the club or is it earmarked for specific purposes? I seem to remember when the draws were introduced the money was used for various projects such as improving facilities for physically disabled fans but I might be getting mixed up with TUST fundraising.

Thanks in advance if you are able to provide answers

Why?

I'm sure the rest of the forum would be interested in these answers as well. ;-)

Yes,Jerry. With regards to TUST what has happened to our subscriptions in past two years? They must be sitting on a fair amount of money as I'm not aware any has been forwarded to TUFC for any specific projects recently.

I can answer #2:

There is a great improvement within Seal Hayne, it consists of 3 fields that could fit roughly 6 academy pitches on it (where some are smaller than others). When I had a game on it a week ago we ruled that the main one; which had the work done on it, was unfit for play. We used another one; behind the hedge, which was perfect.

I am not sure if there if drainage was included in the work but I could not understand why one pitch was in excellent condition and the other one was underwater in places.

All in all, this is a much better environment than Forces Cross.

I'm very busy, my answers are likely to attract moron club bashers who will, inevitably, make more noise based on thin air than I can reasonably defend against at the moment. By PM, Tomo gets his answers, and the club avoids scurrilous rumour mongering from the forum which exists to support it (allegedly).

Matt my friend what's happened to you, the brave poster always ready to take on all comers with your intelligence and wit, have you lost your nerve. ;-)

There's nothing in any of those questions that's in any way sensitive and would need to be kept out of the public domain, maybe these subjects will be covered in the fans forum, if so, someone please report back, as for the TUST no idea, never had anything to do with it, and to be fair the 50/50 draw barely makes enough to feed the chickens.

I'm fully aware that Seale Hayne is currently looking in very good condition , but at this time of year you'd fully expect that, bit of rain, a healthy dose of sunshine, coupled with a regular grass cut, I would be some what concerned if it wasn't, the club by it's own admission knows about the drainage problems at Seale Hayne, not fantasy all in here...http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/G ... story.html has this sponsor been found ? has this work been carried out ? is this work going to be carried out in the near future ? If not, then come late November through to February expect the training ground once again to be out of bounds and accusations to appear of it being a £200k white elephant, and rightly so.

The club by it's own admission knows about the problems caused by Bristow's bench, all in here... http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/F ... story.html has a camera survey been carried out ? if not, when ? Is the cost of repair work to great ? If so, any plans to buy waterproof pitch covers, which can be brought as full pitch or much cheaper part pitch covers. Yes every ground is different, but one thing that can't be denied is the record rainfall hit every single club, with no expectation, those clubs with waterproof pitch covers suffered no postponements, those with out, did, they're proven to work.

Thanks to all who have provided answers ...... or raised more questions ! As Taxilady posted, these are issues that can rightly be raised at the Fans Forum and should be although I would quickly add that I hope the Fans Forum doesn't turn into a 'Club Bashing' exercise. Baygull's post about TUST is rather worrying although I am told there are plans afoot to salvage something from the ashes.
