"Unofficial" retained list

Post by ferrarilover »

http://www.torquayheraldexpress.co.uk/T ... story.html

Harding and Bennerz listed, Stevens listed.

Manse gets a new deal, as do Yeoman, Thompson (6 months), Poke, Rice and Lathrope.

Bodin to stay while recovering from yesterday's surgery.

Matt.

Well im delighted! Almost exactly what I hoped for.

Obvioulsy being on the transfer list doesnt mean that we will get rid of them. and thats not CH's fault.

But totally happy with the way CH is going, I cant believe it actually.

I didnt list Poke because I thought he would be too expensive, not that I dont rate hime at Conference level, becuase he is definetly good enough at that level.

I also didnt list Mansel, but heh I can go with that. All the rest spot on. Even Yeoman and Thomson. Crusie i didnt list but to be honest I dont think he will be here next season.

Given this news, I will be going as much, if not more than last season.

I will wait till near the end of the season ticket deadline and just may buy one to help the club, although i wont use it too its full extent.

Lets hope that there are some suckers out there to take the listed players off us!!

I'm pleased with that list. Pearce and Cameron are the only contracted players worth keeping (not counting Sullivan and Hutchings).

Seems a few are surprised Mansell and Poke have been offered something but I imagine the deals on the table are worth much less than what they have been earning over the last few seasons. Be interesting to see if they agree terms.

If that happens I'll be disappointed with poke and rice staying, we don't need both, prefer to keep one and then get a younger lad in to develop

In last week's HE podcast David Thomas explained that not only the players' contracts but also those of CH and Lee Hodges state a decrease in their salaries upon relegation.
The sooner the contracted players leave the more money frees up for incoming signings. But being realistic just how many of those on the transfer list are likely to be snapped up? They didn't actually cover themselves in glory. Could be a tense summer of wait and see.

Not sure when he changed it, but Manse's current Twitter bio states: 'free agent'. Make of that what you will.

Significant you would think, particularly given the earlier one about his "anger and frustration". I believe he has only changed that earlier today, as certainly it always used to make reference to being captain at TUFC, which has now been removed, as you state, with "free agent".

I guess, putting two and two together, that whatever he has been offered in terms of a new deal was a lot less than he was hoping for. The thing is, when he signed his last contract, we had just come off a successful play off campaign and were in the middle of another one and he was scoring freely and playing quite possibly the best football of his career, which was recognised when he, and Nico come to that, were named in the 2011-12 PFA team of the year.

He is now 31 (and will be 32 in September), having just had, by his standards, a pretty poor season and we are now faced with a Conference sized budget on gates of probably not much over 2000. Not only that, but we are led to believe that all the contracted players have had to face pay cuts, including the management, and so a considerable drop in wages was always a near certainty, but because of where he was at, I suspect in the captain's case he may have been faced with a much bigger drop, for all the reasons above, which understandably perhaps, he resents.

Maybe Manse could interest Truro or he might fancy a go as player-manager at Weston-Super-Mare?

If Manse doesn't want to be here next season then he needs to go. CH said last week that he will only have players who want to be here and play for Torquay. Give the captaincy to Pearcy instead

Maybe manse needs to have a hard look at himself. He has been in 3 relegation seasons to the conference. And this season has been very poor for his standards. Why should he expect the same wage, want a pay rise ? Then go elsewhere or get us back in the league. It must be a tough decision as he must be settled in the bay, but we don't want players at the club here for the money, there can't be room for sediment in the position we as a club face

Manse would have been on a fair wack of money even after a pay cut, much like Nicho!

To give CH a chance to bring in who he wants it had to be done!
