Craig / Chappell

Post by AustrianAndyGull »

As I have not really had much of a response to the subaphobia thread which is a serious question then I'm clutching at straws with this too but if anyone can be arsed to post an answer I'd be grateful.

Why does Knill insist on playing Chappell and Craig on opposite sides?

It's a simple question, it shouldn't be happening, it's not working and it's pretty obvious all round to everyone except Alan. Is there a valid reason that anyone knows of why this keeps happening and if so what is it?

Thanks
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Andy I'm feeling quite peeved! I thought my response on your Subo thread was really rather good! Brief, clear, and concise (you'd better look those words up).. :na:

Anyway, to answer your question, to have a left-footed player on the right and a right-footed player on the left cannot work and is not working, and, because they need an extra touch of the ball, they're not getting their crosses in early enough. But this is just one little aspect Alan Knill's tactical master plan for a game. Or perhaps he simply doesn't know his left foot from his right.. =D

Alan Knill has no right to expect any support when making decisions like this one. It is another example of square pegs round holes and another example of misconduct quite frankly, it is so obvious that it shouldn't be happening. Chappell has looked absolutely woeful the last 5 times I've seen him but we know he is a cracking player.

We seem to be agreed that we and most, if not all, of the rest of us could do a better job as manager.. :-D

I'll take that as a polite hint to stop posting about it because I'm starting to irritate. That's fine Mick, no probs. I know that. You seem a decent bloke so I take in the right manner. :-D

I've made a few threads now and I get the impression some people aren't too happy (they never are) so i'll answer their prayers and say goodbye for a few weeks. Not running off, just had my say, nothing more to be said.

Hope everybody enjoys the break from the footy and gets back to Plainmoor refreshed and ready to go.

This is all part of the Knill masterplan - he seems to be the worst manager we have ever had.

I agree Bruce, he was near the bottom of the manager table a few weeks ago if I remember, he must be bottom now. Given everything into consideration its appalling. Do you think anyone on here would have done a worse job, when you think of the stats it would be hard to do worse.

I've been banging on about this to my mate for a while. It really annoys the shit out of me.

The idea behind it is that it forces the full backs onto their weaker foot and makes them more likely to commit to rash tackles. Imo though, it makes the centre a far tighter area to exploit and gives the strikers less areas to move into as its easier to defend and just pack the middle.

By using natural footed players wide it helps stretch the defence and gives more space for the likes of Benyon or Hawley who tend to come deeper to make later runs which are more difficult to pick up. I've been saying for a while that the best system to use atm is 4/2/3/1. Benyon in particular is best playing that role behind the striker and his strengths are his reading of the game and his movement. He'll never score a barrowload of goals but he will pull the defence around and create space.

It annoys me as well. Another reason for it is that its easier for the wide players to cut inside and shoot with their stronger foot. It p**sed me off when Ling did it and I still think the same now Knill does it. As it happens, Chapps is pretty accurate crossing the ball with his left foot though he prefers his right. The less said about Craigs right foot though, the better...
Apathy Rules...............it's ok though, nobody's that fussed about it........
