Match Posters
I am not for one moment having a pop at the clubs match posters. They are clear and you see several around the area, so they clearly raise the profile of matches....it is also easy to say "this is what the club should do" without contributing anything to get the idea off the ground
....however, hats off to our old friends at Lewes who are trying a completely new approach to match day posters, some are quite simply works of art

They are brilliant, really attention grabbing and stand out.
Especially the Doctor who one.

You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

Hi Mid Devon,
Don’t worry you’re not ‘not popping’ at the club. The posters are produced and paid for by two fans, not the club, and then distributed with the fantastic help of half a dozen volunteers who donate their spare time and petrol to help get them out.
However, if you would like to volunteer and take this over and do something different, that would be great. You’ll need to find a designer willing to do them free of charge, around £100 a month in printing and distribution costs and you’ll need the best part of a weekend plus 3 or 4 evenings to get them out.
Agreed, the Lewes posters are really good and some great ideas there (especially if they can charge fans £5 for a copy)…some food for thought maybe?

Wonderfully imaginative posters. Particularly like 'The Clash' one.

That's a silly response Branscombe
You can see by my posting that I was keen to praise the work of the few who currently make things happen with the match posters.
To reply in "volunteer syndrome" speak just dilutes the good work of volunteers at the club.
Volunteer by all means, but getting defensive when someone comes up with a new approach to an idea is quite simply stupid

Didn't read Branscombe's reply as defensive, just read it as information. I didn't know the costs of poster distribution before, & I don't have any of the skills necessary, but hey, it's worth putting it all out there just in case we have anybody so inclined out in the fan base or known to anyone on here. Agree that the Lewes posters are great, & thanks for sharing them !!!!!!

Hi Mid Devon, as Taxi Lady quite rightly says I wasn’t being defensive and agreed, the Lewes posters are good. I think you should put your ideas into action and contact the Club, I was just pointing out that they are provided by fans and what is currently involved should you/someone want to take this forward. Doing the posters is time consuming so if you or someone wants to take them on I’d be really pleased. Now the defensive bit, as for diluting volunteers… I believe I used the words ‘fantastic help’, is that really ‘silly and simply stupid’ ? Think you've totally mis-understood my previous reply.

Hi Guys
I think these look brilliant. But a word of warning.
Many of them contain images that could be copwrite.
Be careful if you decide to do some of these, as you don't need the aggro of a lawyer writing you awkward letters.
I think of especially Dr Who and The Che Guevara one. These images have more than likely been registered.
Other than that. I am sure we could run a compo to see who can come up with what designs. Maybe we can run this annually to see who or how many can submit the best for the season.
The main winners can maybe get a free ticket to a match or a day spent with Ferrari Lover and even hear my best jokes.

I have just been trawling through the poster and the one that says Lewes needs you speaks volumes to our club.
We should instigate a Torquay needs you campaign throughout the region. Radio interviews and poster campaigns. Get a mascot walking in various areas. Tv interviews all with the message that The Gulls need you all now. Not next week or next month.
Get all the staff and players involved. Get some of the fans involved. I am sure some of us would volunteer. I would anyway.
Have vehicles drive round with the logo United needs you emblazoned on it. There are various vehicles run by the club from Cars to vans. See what can be hired cheaply to get the message across.
See who owns businesses in the area. find out which of them will display the message. Get permission to put up posters on buildings. If nec bridges. Ferrari lovers car. Trojans back if nec.
See if the big wheel will display in outside so people can see it as the cars rise. On beaches. railway stations. in telephone boxes.
on lamposts. stick on dogs, cats. Paignton zoos animals. Icecream koisks. put the message up flag poles. We should have most of the stadium emblazoned with it. outside as well as inside. get a few t shirts done with the logo.
There is so much that could be done. It's not a case of impossible, it's a case of what can we do?

I agree there could be some copyright issues on some posters....but the general "Club Spirit" and the "Lewes is a fun and friendly place to visit" messages are really strong....and of course, on the whole their crowds are pretty good for the 2nd tier of non league football, sometimes 4 figures
I think , judging by this thread, we are a long way from that spirit at TUFC :}
I am sorry if I have upset some
, that has never been my intention....just giving them a friendly nudge ..... but it is a shame that people cannot raise issues like this without having their head bit off :whip:
