are we giving the popside to Argyle fans ?
Don't know how true this is, heard on the grapevine the club have been asked to give up the popside to Argyle fans, for our upcoming match..
This is an appeal from me to the club to resist any request or temptation to take such an action, we should not be giving up our home end to any club, certainly not a local rival, not for 30 pieces of silver, not for all the tea in China.
There is no guarantee that Plymouth will sell their likely allocation of 1500, as they were still trying sell their Exeter allocation on the day of the match, even if they did sell an extra 100-200, who is to say with Argyle fans in the popside that wouldn't put off a large number of Torquay fans from going, so the club could potentially lose money on the game.
Also to be considered here, if they did give the popside to Plymouth, then it's highly likely they also would give it to Rovers and worse still to Exeter fans as well.
I believe one issue from Saturday was Portsmouth fans who had seating tickets went in behind the goal, don't buy into this argument, so because we can not seem to organize getting away fans to enter the right section, the club may find itself or put itself in a position were it has to upset it's own fans, and I am sure more than 900 stand on the popside, so the same thing could happen.
So if your happy with our local rivals lauding it over us because they were given our home end, thus making the club a laughing stock , then fine that's your right, if you want the club to keep it's dignity and not sell it's die hard fans down the river, then have your say.
If this is true, and the club do hand over the popside, then just to make things clear, I will 'not' attend this game.

I will deal with this rumour before it grows legs and state categorically that the Popside has NOT been given to Plymouth. Plymouth have received there normal allocation of tickets for the Away Terrace and the away sections of Bristows Bench. They won't be given any more for the usual health and safety reasons. I stand on the Popside and certainly wont be moved!
Spoil sport..
thanks for clearing that up and that's good to hear, and just to add I was told this was discussed in the post man debrief by someone who was there, the only reason I did the thread.

I saw loads of Argyle fans I know on the Popside for our derby games in the last two seasons. They didn't wear colours and behaved themselves. Similarly for the return fixtures at Home Park I sat in the Lyndhurst Stand. It's extra revenue so for responsible adults segregation shouldn't be ncessary.

Any rumour that Argyle were being given the Popside would have needed to be started before we began selling Popside tickets to home fans for that match, if it were hoping to attract any credibility.
The club has been touting it's 'Big Five' games with the £10 discount if you buy in advance for some time. It's much too far down the line to expect Popside Torquay fans to bring their tickets back so they can be handed over to Argyle fans instead. The story didn't stand up from the beginning, although it did give forevertufc an excuse for a rant which he seemed to enjoy

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

just because we started selling tickets doesnt necessarily mean that the club cant change their mind.Alpine Joe wrote:Any rumour that Argyle were being given the Popside would have needed to be started before we began selling Popside tickets to home fans for that match, if it were hoping to attract any credibility.

I wouldn't worry about it Super. According to some most of us are continually and actively seeking ways to bash the club. We aren't happy unless we are bashing the club. We don't think before criticising, we don't take into account the full facts before commenting blah blah blah.
I'm sure Dave will come on and apologise should he feel he got it wrong in light of Mr Candy's response, not that he has anything to apologise for I may add. I'm not the only over sensitive one it would appear.
COYY!!!!!

Hi Andy
I am afraid I heard this rumour too. In my case it came from one of the stewards. I don't know their names so cannot tell you who it is.,

The only people who need to consider apologising for anything are those who deliberately started a groundless rumour. I can't see that forevertufc owes an apology to anyone for telling us of a rumour he's heard and inquiring whether there was any truth to it. It gave him the added opportunity of laying out just where he stands regarding traditionally home sections of the ground being given to away fans. I doubt he feels particularly 'popped' at either, but he's welcome to explain if his feelings are badly hurt

You tell me to see Gloster's post which I have already read. You say I should have read the OP which i had also previously read. Being told to re-read stuff I've already read is beginning to grate slightly, but if it's keeping you amused I can live with it.
