I'm 23, born in to a family full of Yorkshire puddings but arrived at Torbay hospital in 1990. My family had moved there so my Dad could work. Moved back to leeds in 2000 but been TUFC since about 94/95 and although my Dad tried to get me to support Leeds, I chose Torquay .. Proud of it

16, first game was 2001 orso in the League Cup according to my Dad.
First game I actually remember was Lincoln away where we lost 2-1 (I think it was 2-1 and both goals for them were scored in injury time).

38 1/2 years old, not very grown up, very immature and 12 years old at the most in many ways. similar to what andy said earler i am grown up, reponsible, mature and behave in the correct manner when it matters.
some on here think i am older though -
my first torquay match, i had just turned 12, 86/87 last match vs crewe 2-2 draw (the great escape), bryn the police dog did his bit and paul dobson did the rest. the scenes at the whistle that day were incredible and just made me a torquay united convert there and then. they were singing our anthem ( see bottom of page) at the end of the game, it was really emotional and i had a tear trickling down my cheek. that has only ever happened twice since, vs orient last game 97/98, and after tim sills bullet header vs cambridge 09 play off final went in ( after celebrating i just slumped in my seat and wept).
just think, some of you are in your 70's, even 80's, so if being obese doesnt do me in early i could have maybe at least another 40 years of watching our team yet :-o . what a thought!

53.
First game was in about 1968/9 and a 5-1 or 5-2 win against Tranmere. Probably the last time I saw us hit 5!! That was just about the start of the decline after the O'Farrell years when Alan Brown sold most of the team to Bournemouth and we set ourselves up for the dreary 70s and div 4 mid table mediocrity every year when one down and four up with no play offs meant most seasons were finished blend of feb. Would happily settle for that this year though.

44 but a relative newcomer, my first game was only 2 and a half years ago (19th February 2011, a 1-1 draw with Southend).

62 (in February - I always go on the age I will be during a football season!)
First home game September 1963 aged 11 Rochdale ... 1-0 win with a Dave Hancock goal. I was hooked then but straight after that we went on a run of 12 successive home league and FA Cup games where we scored 48 goals. An incredible average of 4 a game so who could fail to be mesmerised?
First away Exeter City in same season a Good Friday 0-0 draw in front of a crowd of 16000 (followed on Easter Monday by a 1-1 at Plainmoor in front of 13000). Exeter were promoted that season while we fell away to finish 6th.
First proper away our promotion season 1965/1966 a 2-0 win with two Dougie Clark goals at Layer Road against Colchester United, followed the following month with a final game of season 0-0 draw with Darlington at Feethams with a crowd of 16000. We were promoted in 3rd place, as were Darlington (2nd) and Colchester United (4th).
Can't remember much since then ......!

Same as me and Gloucester Gull, Roadrunner-probably stood shoulder to shoulder in the mini-stand-surrounded by non-segregregated away fans!ROADRUNNER wrote:54 and been watching the gulls since 1964, cant remember what my first game was, going blind and bald. yellow and blue through and through.
I'm 55. The three of us celebrate 50 years of supporting the Gulls next year-perhaps they will reward us with a gold-watch or something!
Back then, it wasn't even one down either, with the re-election system which essentially was a bit of a closed shop. It was only occasionally that clubs got voted out, so more often than not there was nothing to play for once it was clear that you were unlikely to challenge for promotion. Also, the days of one sub, smaller squads, keepers wearing green shirts with the same shorts and socks as outfield players and also the days when you seemed to get a lot of player-managers. They seem to be rarer these days.yeovilgull wrote:53.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
Just got out my Torquay United Bible - The Official Centenary History - excellent publication. Marwood Marchant played for us in the 1951/52 & 52/53 seasons, scoring 10 goals in 18 games and 9 goals in 22 games. So just a bit before your time, Portugull. Bliddy 'ell - I must be older than I thought !!portugull wrote:Tomogull I cannot remember Marchant. Are you sure you have got the name right?
Not listed on Wiki as a former player.
(Reply) 40 years time - now there's a thought. You'll be posting on here - I remember when we had really great players like Alex Russell, Lee Mansell, Kevin Nicholson and Aaron Downes, and I was at Plainmoor when legend Jordan Chappell, who went on to play for Man Utd in the Championship, scored our quickest ever goal in 17 seconds. There will be players you will especially remember, though - like Guy Branston and Kevin Hill. Mind you, I bet Andy will still be having a whinge about Billy Bodin !!chunkygull wrote:38 1/2 years old, not very grown up, very immature and 12 years old at the most in many ways. similar to what andy said earler i am grown up, reponsible, mature and behave in the correct manner when it matters.

Sorry Chunkgull - your posts are always sooooooo sensible and articulate, I simply assumed you must be one of us. Now I'm digging a bigger hole for myself ! Tomogull![]()
