No ones doubting that, the POINT is a simple one, even simple people should be able to understand, teeboo asked if another manager in our clubs history had been given the backing Alan Knill has, the answer, YES, Paul Buckle had £50,000 to spend on transfer fees, Alan Knill has had £0.hector wrote:Buckle made some excellent signings that served the club well and became folklore legends - Nicholson, Sills, Hargreaves, O'Kane, Ellis amongst others, while also signing some duds Jody Banim, Iysedyn Christie etc.
However, Buckle HAD to make more signings at the start because he didn't have enough players to field a team, let alone a squad. And that team that Buckle signed at the start of our first non-league season, even though some of the players like Sills, Todd, Hargreaves, struggled when we went up into the league, would wipe the floor with the current side.
I really am not keen on Buckle after the way he treated us during the build-up to Old Trafford but I preferred life as a TUFC fan under his management than Knills.

The transfer fee aspect is a misnomer though. You would only need a few players on high wages and that £50,000 comparison would be rendered meaningless. It would surely require knowledge of wages combined with transfer fees to compare who had been the most heavily backed and that is information that people can only speculate about.forevertufc wrote: No ones doubting that, the POINT is a simple one, even simple people should be able to understand, teeboo asked if another manager in our clubs history had been given the backing Alan Knill has, the answer, YES, Paul Buckle had £50,000 to spend on transfer fees, Alan Knill has had £0.
Really suggesting Chris Zebroski was on less money than some of our current players.hector wrote: The transfer fee aspect is a misnomer though. Any ideas what Pearce is on? I bet it's a lot.
Bet you Pearce is on no where near what it cost, in the transfer fees and wages, of Zebroski, Wroe and Phillips. Sorry all roads lead back the same thing, Buckle was by far the best backed manager we ever had.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I'm not suggesting anything nor have I said Knill has had more to spend than Buckle. I just said he made better signings. Whether the team in the Conference cost more than this one to pay for in wages and transfer fees, I don't know. Maybe it did, maybe it didn't but it was better than what we have now. By the same token, I can't imagine Lathaniel Rowe-Turner was on much either.

There is almost no doubt (although I am making a reasonable composite from different things I've come to know) that today's squad earn less than the squad which won at Wembley against Cambridge.

Bumped into Ben earlier in the Imperial at Ivybridge (not his dad's pub - the little traitor!). He can't do it as cannot afford a drop in salary, but spoke well of you usam and thinks you are trying to angle a job as an agent!usagullmichigan wrote:Knill has to go. Ben Smith is back in Ivybridge after a successful season managing Ytterhogdals IK, can he come help out? :~D

Well unless we have detailed knowledge of each players we will never know. I trust that some on here might have some sort of indication that knill has a smaller budget but setting that aside. I doubt buckles fringe players were on much at all. I very much doubt any of knills signings will become legends. All managers sign duds, Wenger and fergy included. But for me knills signings, and there's been a few by the way have not proved good enough. Given the fact that it was his connections that was he was given the job in the first place.

Who is Ben Smith? Not the ex-Yeovil player is he? Is he a manager now?stefano wrote: Bumped into Ben earlier in the Imperial at Ivybridge (not his dad's pub - the little traitor!). No not ex-Yeovil. He is the son of Dave Smith the former Notts County player who had a couple of seasons with us around 1979/1980 and is now the licensee of the Duke of Cornwall in Ivybridge. Ben is a strong Torquay supporter although I think he was on the books at Argyle as a youngster, he played for a while in Australia, and is now manager of a team in Sweden. Bloody difficult language to get your head around!hector wrote: Who is Ben Smith? Not the ex-Yeovil player is he? Is he a manager now?

Ha Ha I need to tell Ben my percentage fees. I grew up with Ben and spent many nights after school playing football in the park with him. It seems he is doing a really good job in Sweden but I don't think it's the drop in wages that's the issue, it's the female surroundings that's the stumbling block :~Dstefano wrote: Bumped into Ben earlier in the Imperial at Ivybridge (not his dad's pub - the little traitor!). With loan signings, it all depends how much we are contributing to their wages. I am sure I read that we weren't paying any of Callum Balls wages, and with Azeez, McCallum, O'Connor and McCourt all coming from bigger clubs, and getting their first experiences of first team football, we are probably not spending very much money bringing in all 4 for a month. Having 14 players competing for 6 places isn't ideal, but short term it is needed to get some points on the board. If we are mid table at Christmas then we will probably use our contracted players, which is what Knill suggested this week.
