Connection ?

Post by Banging_Them_In »

So the club are asking us our opinions about how the players can better 'connect' with the fans ?

Simples. Feckin' play better !

Connect with the ball, and you connect with the bleddy fans.

Connect the ball with the back of the bleddy net, and you connect with the fans.

Tiz a simple game, for simpletons.....if I wanted complications then I would 'connect' more with the games of cricket and rugby !

Sh1t - its all so clear now.

Someone inform Alan that all we have to do is to play well and score goals.

A refreshing new approach here. Why has no one in football thought of this before?

Well done you.

I'm not particularly fussed if the players don't connect with the fans. All I ask of them is to behave and apply themselves as professional sportsmen and hopefully that should be good enough. I don't want them to be my friend or say they love Torquay, I just want them to be grateful for me, in some small part paying their mortgages for a bit and consistently do what they are paid to do. Football has become a sterile business and although it is really nice when players do get involved with the fans I fear it soon will become a thing of the past at all professional levels.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I seem to recall that this exact thread was pre-empted in the bumpf issued by the club upon the intorduction of this scheme. They specifically asked, "what would you like to see happen at the club (apart from the obvious of scoring loads of goals and winning every week)" or something to that effect.

Not normally one to shoot down a thread in its entirety, but this one does seem a bit silly. Sorry BTI, must try harder try something relating to cats and tables, they always seem to go down well).

huh, hem, :( pardon me, but this is exactly what this thread was about!

http://forum.torquayfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6246

started last saturday.

it was about this -

http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 51842.aspx

yes, i used the sub-heading, because that was the main question, but same thing.

the difference was, i was trying to get some sort of idea of how people felt about the questions asked.

i wondered if people would share their answers that they would give the club, with the forum.

i would question if an evening of such like, with the players is a good idea around a time when results havent exactly been spectacular. a few beverages and a few home truths may be spilled.
You are my torquay, my only torquay, you make me happy when skies are grey, you'll never know, just, how much i love you, so don't take my torquay away.

I would like to see more interaction between the club and the multitude of schools in the area and I don't just mean Torquay. Would also like to see the players being more pro-active with the supporters during the warm up and after the match.

Yes, Yes......OK, OK

I admit it.....I started this rather negative thread to have a whinge and moan .......... just thought we would be better placed at this point.........

.....although, saying that, the word 'connect' sometimes does come over a bit 'touchy-feely' for me.

I have always been a Brian Clough fan see......and I thought the way he 'connected' with fans was the best.......in all the ways one looks at it.......

I was a fan of Brian clough too. But to be honest if you look at how he behaved sometimes He would have been out on his ear if he wasn't successful. He won trophies. Loads of em. Shed loads of em. He collected the European cup in bulk. There's hardly a manager alive (or Dead comming to think of it) who could match his success especially as he did it with an unfashionable team. Yes his no nonsense honest approach connected with fans of our age. But would he have connected with todays yoofs. Would he have survived the cynical game we have today. And if he had not been anywhere as successful, would he have connected at all ?
It's such a shame it all ended the way it did for him. we will never see the likes again.
Always Look on the bright side of life
