Why do i need to think around the issue in a bit more depth Lloyder5? I've said what i would do in Rene's position and that's good enough for me. I don't need to think about it. I'm not right and neither are you but maybe if people went with their feelings a bit more rather than 'thinking' about everything and analysing everything to death then it would all be a bit easier for them to make decisions. If i was Rene and i was really happy living in Torquay with my new family and on a decent enough wedge for the level i was playing at then i'd have accepted the contract on offer straight away or at the very latest the moment league survival was ensured and Ling had gone. He could really have been an integral part of the new fresh side under Knill and loved even more by the fans but now it's all going a bit sour and all because HE wants to 'think about things' as it were.
I dare say if he rejoins us then the gloss will have come off him being our star player somewhat.
Oh and North Yorkshire Gull, i agree that he is coming to the peak of his career and needs to get the biggest offer he can get but obviously ours is not one of them so then he should say. He should say, i want more cash and therefore i'm leaving Torquay to get it. Not a problem.
Hopefully it won't become,"i'm leaving Torquay for the cash but no other club wants me so i would like to rejoin you guys at Plainmoor again even though i don't really want to but if i didn't i'd be unemployed, oh dear i've made a mistake".
What's childish about having an opinion that differs to yours then? I'd better go and get my lego set then build a castle in the living room as i've been rumbled.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Oh and Lloyder5? I feel it appropriate to apologise for that little rant you highlighted. Regardless of differing opinions it wasn't a good thing to have done so sorry.

Six pages on a simple thing as a player wanting to get as decent a deal as he can possibly get ! To band about such words as mercenary is just plain ridiculous. Of course he is a mercenary they all are we all are !! He may have had a contract offer on the table but he obviously wants to see whats out there. Why the hell wouldn't he ?? Jeez some of the drivel above is so naive.
I know I will get slaughtered for this but please step back and just think about it a bit more and put yourself in his position.
Get in the real world peeps !

You're right. It is only the 20th May, the play-offs for League 2 finished yesterday. Plenty of time to resolve transfer issues yet.
I would prefer Rene to stay, but I doubt if he will. If he doesn't then Alan Knill will find a replacement. There are other players at least as good as Rene (possibly better!) who are available. Time for a bit of chilling I think!
I'm not sure why people expect things to be signed and sealed so soon.
The only players that have signed for clubs at this stage of the summer are players who know they aren't going to get a better offer. That's why Pompey are pretty much the only side signing people up, every player at this level would want to play for them.
Every other player will be waiting to see what's available and holding out as long as possible to squeeze as much as they can out of clubs.
This is why our transfers nearly always happen late in the summer. As Royal says, no player dreams of playing for Torquay and they will hold off signing for us if they think there is a chance of a better offer, and who can blame them? Who wants to sign a 2 year deal at Plainmoor only to learn too late that Wolves were about to make you an offer?

Boo **** ing hoo, he'll have to go out and get himself another job then, won't he.northyorkshiregull wrote:Rene's carear will probably be over by the time he is 35. At the moment he is going to be coming up to the peak of his carear and so get the biggest wage offer that he will ever get. He also has a young family so support. So may be a few of you need to stop being so childish about him taking his time before he decides What's best for himself.
Rene Howe isn't bigger than Torquay United. Sign, or piss off, those are his two options. We as a club will not be taken for a ride by some fat arsehole who rates himself far too highly.
Matt.

Firstly i'm not naive. I know what goes on with footballers and contracts and about many of them being mercenaries. Being naive indicates that i wouldn't know what goes on and i do to a certain extent. Just because it goes on and is par for the course doesn't make it right or acceptable though does it?Dutchgull wrote:Six pages on a simple thing as a player wanting to get as decent a deal as he can possibly get ! Secondly i have thought about it as if i were Rene and that is why there is a debate going on. Because i've said what an absolute knobhead i would have been if i were Rene in the current circumstances that's all and now i'm suddenly naive or childish. No, i'm just making my mind up as to what i would want if i were Rene (like you said i should do) and to also consider my employers in this who have stuck by me even though i've spent half the season nearly, suspended! (Assuming i was Rene). Like Matt says, sign or p*ss off. It's not rocket science and it certainly is not unfair.

Anyway, it's getting a bit tiresome now as everyone seems to missing my point and nobody appears to have any values anymore even you fans, out for everything you can get no doubt and don't care who you tread on. I'm so glad i'm not like that but suffice to say that i wish Rene well at his future club and thank him for being generally a quality player for us.

I am with you on this one Andy. I want a squad of players committed to TUFC and putting that yellow jersey on.
I really hope that AK can build a squad of players that are committed and have desire to play for that shirt. I bet Gary Johnson isnt having any problems with players signing contracts etc. There bloody squad would run over broken glass for him. It s going to take time to build this desire and commitment.
When AK signed Joss Labadie, what an inspiration he was. He never had to come here. I want a squad of players like that who are willing to do whatever.
The longer this drags out, I can see AK loosing patience. I like you already have. Good luck Rene.

Oh dear "Like Matt says, sign or p*ss off." I cant believe I am seeing such bollocks ! No wonder this site is called the kiddies site on another Torquay United forum !
So other players don't receive suspensions ?? Suffer loss of form etc etc
Matt, please call Rene a fat arsehole to his face the next time you see him !!
Andy we get your point and over and over and over again !!
I despair.

So what's wrong with saying this then? I suppose all the other fans on the other site are some kind of intellectual mercurial coven all stroking their beards and full of enlightenment and contemplation and musing over the triviality of worthless oiks like myself whose views aren't intellectual enough. I could not give one sh*t what people on the other forum think, if they think it's beneath them then they shouldn't be f*cking bothered what we post should they?!!!! Pathetic over inflated egos. Maybe that's why you are so in favour of what Rene is doing as he has one too and perhaps you can relate? I don't know. All i know is that what he is doing is not right and fair by the club and fans who have supported him and if i'm a kiddie for pointing this out again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again then i'm perfectly happy to be one.Dutchgull wrote:Oh dear "Like Matt says, sign or p*ss off." Sign or go, sign or p*ss off. Does it matter how it is worded? That's effectively the scenario so what's your problem with it?
I despair

Calling Howe a fat arsehole just because he won't re-sign again makes you look a right twerp actually.
Judging by Howe's tweets he may well be believing his own hype but there again he is a pro footballer and bless him he probably isn't a mensa candidate.
Its more hilarious than anything else.
As for messing Knill or Torquay about - then again I guess you don't know the full circumstances anymore than I do.
We can only be held to ransom by him if we allow that situation to happen (and really we don't know what is happening)
Howe is a decent league 2 journeyman footballer but if he does move I would be willing to bet that he won't set the world alight and in a year or two will move on again.
He is just that sort of player.

just to butt in and say, that other forum is boring as sh!te. hardly and posts or posters. and it seems there have been a few problems on there lately. if they think we are like kids, do i look bovvered. nah, nah, nah,nah nah, nah. :na: this site is far more interesting and a great deal more fun.
just to be more like a kid, this forum is a million, trillion, gazillion times better than the other one.
as for rene, i doubt he will sign. i could not give a to$$ if he goes. we have lost far better players than him and replaced them, not always like for like, sometimes immediately, sometimes eventually, but we do carry on.
nothing against him for wanting his ideal wage or location for his family, thats all part of the game, i dont like the thought of our club being took the pi$$ out of it, but i am sure if he cant get the deal he wants elsewhere we will welcome him back with open arms.
i expect our management team will appreciate how the whole process works as they are ex players and may have even done the same at some point.

Some of you people need to check that your hormone pills are still in date. If he signs great! if he doesn't then oh well. I don't want us to break the bank for him. He looked uninterested in the last quarter of the season but the club was a bit of a shambles as well so who could blame him. He plays for the pay cheque not the club.
As Dutchgull said, six pages on Rene ..... wow! I'm doing my bit to take it to a seventh page? Well, here's what I think. I will be sorry if Rene Howe doesn't sign because as Regiment wrote about four pages back, good strikers are hard to come by. All clubs from Premier down to Upton Athletic are looking for them. Rene is a good Div 1/2 striker and with the wages we are able to offer, he will be difficult to replace if he doesn't sign. The other point is that football is a short career (and even shorter for those who pick up a serious injury) and so players have to make what they can when they are at the top of their game. It's not a case of loyalty or whether or not they want to play for the club, it's a case of needs (mortgage etc) must. When I were a lad, players like Sammy Collins, Ronnie Shaw and Dennis Lewis played for the club season after season. The face of football has changed in the past two decades or so and there are very few players like Jamie Carragher and Paul Scholes ..... and Kevin Hill ..... who stay with the same club. So don't knock Rene. He's only doing what you, me or anyone else would do if we were professional footballers.
