Jarvis gone.....
Jarvis gone.....
....really quite surprised at this news.
I expected him to get a new deal, but didn't expect him to turn it down! Not too bothered personally as although he was technically good he never carried enough of a goal threat for my liking.
Undoubtedly an early blow for Alan Knill though as he had some nice things to say about him ( a "players' player) a while back.

No coincidence that the BEST thing he ever did in a TUFC shirt was that fantastic strike from the edge of the box after drifting across the pitch from the half way line. It was, of course, scored against York City. Just so long as their fans don't expect him to do that every week!!! I'm sure he'll do ok there though.

Just when he started to find form and BANG - gone!
Shame but not a massive blow. Looks like a brand new front line next year then!

So Worthington begins to assemble his top 3 squad for next season then, you may laugh but i have a feeling it will happen. I don't belive Jarvis was ever given the service he thrives off but i'm more disappointed he has gone than Rene as he scored more in the second half of the season AND put a shift in. Still, we regenerate and move forward with a new front line which i'm really excited about and i don't even know who we'll have yet!
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
Same as you CP. Didn't expect him to turn it down! Put in some good performances at the back end of the season, so good luck (apart from against us)

Oh and i just thought i'd add that i thank Ryan for his efforts and service to TUFC and he always gave 100%. I don't known why i'm doing this though as some people think giving thanks on here is a waste of time if the players don't read them. Who gives a sh*t what they think anyway? Thanks Ryan and if reading this or not i fully appreciated your commitment to TUFC.

Will go down in the history of generally very poor Torquay forwards alongside the likes of Leight, Byng, Taiwo, Bedeau, Benefield, Donaldson and Griffiths. No loss at all, looked to be lacking in passing, shooting, stamina, skill, strength, speed, enthusiasm and awareness, to name but a few required qualities!!

Also, if York get balls in the box with him playing in a front 2 or winger coming central then he'll score goals. We didn't so he didn't get as many as he could have IMO.

Joey Journeyman. Has averaged 6 goals a season through his career. No great loss.
Bitchie, take out Beds' name from your list and I would agree with every word of your email.

Won't be losing any sleep over this. Average player who will be replaced easily.
He had nowhere near enough pace for my liking and didn't score enough goals for a forward.
Worked hard at the end of the season, when his contract was coming to a close, but I remember in the first half of the season when he came on away at Bristol Rovers and he was disinterested and lazy.
Onwards and upwards...

Didn't see that one coming!
Personally, I think Jarvis is actually out of his depth in League 2 - he'd make an OK'ish Conference player, but that's about it.
Surprised that someone of his 'limited' ability could actually afford to turn down a contract with a stable, well-run, family-friendly club like ours...
Oh well, next!

I wouldn't call either of those players disinterested or lazy. Both struggled for form but have never stopped wanting the ball or trying to take a man on. Rene would cover so much ground over the course of 90mins.
Both struggled to make an impact at times but I don't think that was due to a lack of effort, IMHO.
Jarvis always put in a shift when I saw him, no more so than in the game at York. Unfortunately the moments of skill and technique that made him a Premier League player at the start of his career were all too fleeting. Still, his ball retention was good, and he guaranteed 6-10 goals a season.
My over-riding memory of a largely forgettable footballer will be he's the least naturally fit and oldest-looking 26 year old professional sportsman I've seen! Whilst Knill clearly rated him and will be disappointed, I think he's eminently replaceable. He was never the answer on the wing, with Bodin also lacking pace on the other side, or up front, with Benyon hopefully re-signing soon.
Good luck Ryan, and thanks for making amends on the final day by scoring at the right end, too!

Also Andy, remember that Rene and Billy each have approximately double the ability of Jarvis.
No less frustrating for the fans when they don't put a shift in (more so in fact), but even in 2nd gear they are capable of things that RJ is not.
On a good day, with 100% application, Jarvis is 'useful.' He'll never be any more than that.

No great shakes. Capable, but would have been destined for another season on the bench in my eyes so can be replaced. Probably dined out on his "reputation" and playing at a higher level and was on a decent wage - we can get the same for cheaper.
Thanks Jarvo, but I'm not losing any sleep over this.
