Credit Knill (and Brass)

Post by nickbrod »

There were those who didn't think Alan Knill was going to make a difference but that we have reached 52 points and with one game away from securing our own safety maybe they will think again.
I said after the Southend away draw that the combination with Chris Brass would give us the hope to survive.
Why is it that the club has failed to officially acknowledge the presence of Brass? There has been nothing on the OS since he joined.
Knill and Brass are going to ensure our Football League status and great credit to them for turning our fortunes around.
The BIG interest now is who will be in charge for season 2013-2014?

I remember some time ago that Knill said we had to dig deep and get right in the mucky end and grind out results. I think this was case of Where there is muck there's brass.

Wasn't he the Chris Brass who was loaned out to Carlisle some years ago and in the final game he came out of goal went up the other end for a corner and scored. saved Carlisle at the death.

errr, no.

and yes credit to them both.

i would also think that mr brass could still make a decent fist at being a player in league 2.

No. That was some keeper loaned from Plymouth I think. Can't remember his name.

I think you're thinking of GLASS the Plymouth goalkeeper who scored that late goal at Carlisle.

Quite correct since I started this topic.
Knill's remit on taking the job was to keep us in the Football League and in many previous seasons 52 points would have guaranteed safety. Having got us to this stage I can't believe Knill will allow us to fall at the final hurdle.
At the risk of repeating myself the Dag & Red game against York is the key fixture followed by Northampton v Barnet.
I still say credit Knill and Brass.

Yes all credit to Knill and Brass for what they have done. The Directors have come in for a fair amount of critisism over recent months but fair play to them for eventually seeing what was needed, even if it did take them too long and appointing the right man/men. Had they stuck with Taylor I think we`d have been down some time ago.

Comparing Knills 13 games with the first 13 games of Ward at Bristol R, Sheridan at Argyle, Hill at Rochdale and the 12 of Scott at Shots, - Knill gained 15 pts, Hill gained 15pts, Sheridan gained 23pts, Ward gained 24pts and Scott gained 14pts (over 12 games). Knill return is nothing special.
In Lings last 13 games he gained 16pts plus the defeat to Harrogate.
Neither Ling or Knill can be a good way forward.
To give him credit, as can be seen from the match statistics Knill has been most successful when the team has pressed, and kept at least an equal of the possession, and at least matched the opposition for shots. It took until the 2nd half of the Daggers game for this to be applied. And this was a change away from Lings approach.
His contact list hasn't borne much fruit, but undoubtedly those games with Labadie were very valuable.
He has been more prepared to give Cruise and Yeoman game time and although I'm concerned that he has been timid with them, he has nevertheless been a step forward.

The difference being that Ling was not at his best during that period as subsequent events testify.

Not for me to ask. Knowing the facts I've already laid the blame at the door of the people whose job it was to ask.

He had money made available that wasn't offered to Ling.
