Oh dear, that's not good news for the lad. I don't know the impact this will have on his physical wellbeing as i don't know much about Type 1 diabetes but hopefully he will be well enough to continue where he left off with us, which the last time i saw was an incredibly mature display at Vale Park earlier this season. Get well soon Kirtys.

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

No reason why he should not be able to manage this condition and go on to have a long career, Gary Mabbut has type 1 diabetes and went on to play 600 career games 400 plus for Spurs and a few England caps aswell.

Best wishes Kirtys and follow medical advice to the letter and you should be fine.

both my lads are type 1 diabetics - aged 16 & 15. been type 1 for 7yrs.

controlling the blood sugar levels is key, and to be honest is a little easier now than it was in the day of messers redgrave and mabbutt.

it all depends which regime they have put kirtys on.

for example, my lads can eat anything, as long as they "cover" it with insulin. so a big mac might mean they take 4 units of insulin, according to the grams of carbs in it. a choccy bar - penguins are the fave at the mo is 2units. then at 7pm they take a loading dose of a injection called lantus, one takes 30 units the other 35 units.
to be fair this gives them good control as we aim their blood sugar levels to between 5-10mmols/l.
of course we do get the odd reading of 20mmols/l!!!

hope that explains it a bit!

I hope Kirtys has no objection to your sharing of his private medical condition!!

Well if this is a medical condition that either Kirtys or the club wanted to be kept private, how does Behind-the-gulls know about it ? Some one must have told b-t-g, or the information is availble from somewhere.

This could be a blessing in disguise for the lad, no doubt would have been effecting his development, his ability to train and play for while maybe, not it's known he can get the treatment and help, and as said there are other footballers, sportsmen and women who have suffered from many conditions and gone on to have a sucessful career.

Edit, I see thought jonnyfive was having go at the o/p.

I'm diabetic too - been so since I was 15.

As said by SNW, most diabetics can eat pretty much anything now, as long as you ensure you cover yourself by injecting the right amount.
For those that really do give a s***, its called the DAFNE regime (Dose adjustment for normal eating).

Anyway, moving on!!

And here I am, assuming that B-T-G is McKenzie's private Physician.

Honestly...

Matt.
