I haven't been swimming

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

All the talking and posting won't unfortunately make a jot of difference. We managed two home wins and played ok at Northampton but reverted back to type with todays awful peformance. It was Wycombe and Oxford revisited (only ten times worse).
Unfortunately our chance for safety evaporated with todays result. The plain fact is that we lack ability and other teams are just better than us. Macdonald isn't a league centre half - he tries really hard but he was all over the shop today. Our defence was truly awful.
We will likely have Rice in goal which means we have no chance anyway, and Howe will probably be suspended after the Gillingham - if not his game is rendered ineffective as his natural aggression is curbed for fear of being booked.
If we had got a win over easter we would have stayed up - however no points out of six is a disaster. Todays result proves that we havn't got it. All hope has been drained from me after witnessing what I have seen this afternoon. I think we are going down.

Hard to see where we are going to get enough to stay up now. We needed the points from home games but it look bleak. Not writing us off just yet but if Brackley Town gain promotion from the Conf North then I can watch us 8 miles up the road at the "other" St James Park. It's a park pitch but it will just show how low we would have sunk. Not even remotely happy tonight

judging by people pissing their knickers over todays bad performance you'd think we had played like that in our lost 4 games and just fluked points
Knill was right in his post match interview with it being the worst performance whilst he has been there
put it to bed as Nick says we have 4 cup finals, we above the relegation places and its STILL in our hands

I admire your positivity PR but when at one end we might have Rice and at the other we've got our striker who can't be arsed and never scores nowadays hardly unless it's a penalty you can kind of see why we're all extremely pessimistic. Oh and our next game is away at runaway leaders Gillingham and we've only won 1 away game in 4 months courtesy of a penalty. If we don't beat Barnet we are down mathematical or not IMO. I just have have to thank Alan Knill regardless because the signing of Labadie has kept us in it and had he not joined we'd be down already so whatever happens Knill has done his best.

Sounds like Poke will be back for Saturday so im not concerned about that, i understand Howes frustration our play in and around him yesterday was poor.
After Saturday we have 3 winable games! Home to Barnet, we have to be loud and behind the team, we can go to Morecambe and get the result, they've nothing to play for!
too many teams play each other over the run in, 2 wins will see us safe

We all know that 2 wins will see us safe but we aren't going to get them that's the point and no amount of support or another 500 on the gates will change that. Football is a funny old game and anything can happen but we have a couple of games against teams with nothing to play for which make them the most dangerous IMO. Gillingham is probably the easiest in all honesty as we are away from Plainmoor and expected to get beaten. Barnet at home will be the REAL pressure game and a few players aside, we just don't have the players who can deal with this pressure. That's why we're going down. It's not just about saying we can get 2 wins, it's about factoring in the opposition each team has to play and not saying that one team is easier than another, it's the ability to handle the extreme pressure and about the ability, passion and desire in all those players down the bottom and how they show it and we just don't have the players to succeed in all these areas. We are a BSP club and i'll be singing my heart out at Morecambe but i'll still know i am supporting a team that will be in the conference next season. It's realism, it's pressure and it's all over.

This was the opinion from a lot of people before be beat chesterfield and York, and what about the pressure in the last 10mkns of both those games we hung on in there.
it seems 1 poor performance yesterday and thats it, we might as well not bother just forfeit our remaining games as apparently we are mathematically down and thats it.

No it's because that if we lose to Gillingham, we may still grab a win there. It is possible, but if we lose to Gillingham it leaves us 3 games left of which 2 we have to win. When we beat Chesterfield we still had 6 games left and we were still out of the bottom 2 so although the pressure was on i admit, it will be nothing like having to win 2 out of 3 with no second chances. What if we lose to Gills and draw v Barnet? We could still be in the bottom 2 needing to win our last 2 games. Considering we've only done back to back wins on a couple of occasions i'd say it was madness to suggest we'd stay up.
Anything from Gillingham is a bonus, if we win then yes, we can stay up but as the likely outcome is a loss then it's all about the Barnet match. Lose and we're down, draw and we have to win one of the last 2 and possibly another draw which is possible but we're down. We need to beat Barnet and it is that game that is imperative we do so IMO. Sorry to be a doom monger but that's the way i see it. I'll forget yesterdays performance as under Knill we've generally been more potent and competetive and i'm hoping it was a blip, what we have to remember is that York have now got a great draw at Bristol and a confidence boosting win at home to Plymouth which will give them the belief at a VITAL stage with 4 games left, that late winner for Aldershot v Oxford after being pegged back 5 minutes from time and the fact they could be only a few points off safety with 2 games in hand will give THEM belief at a vital stage with 4 games left, Barnet got a late winner which will do likewise , God knows what has happened to Accrington as they score 2 or 3 goals each week now which we don't.
Plymouth, i don't know what they will do but i still predict they'll drop and sadly it's us with them. Where is our confidence and belief at THIS vital stage? After back to back nervy wins we've lost cruelly in the last few minutes at Northampton AND put in an absolute shocker at home to Bradford, not the ideal ingredients for another recovery. The recovery may happen of course but unlike when Knill first came in, we don't have the games left to take the gradual steps. We haven't got the time nor have we got the players to cope with what is to come.
Whilst we have people still wanting to put a caring arm around players like Bodin and give him a cuddle they slag others off for us being in this mess. Bodin has had the time to come good and he hasn't, if it is because he needs to be in a winning, confident team to fulfil his potential then fine, he'd best either join Man Utd or get the hell out of Plainmoor as he'll not get that here and players like Oastler who has the turning circle of the titanic needed to find their form and they haven't. It's just a bloody mess out there, we've lurched from one absurd disaster to another, had one set back after another and are just a point off Plymouth when they've been down the f*cking bottom most of the season! AND they've got a game in hand!!
It's not going to happen, we've been played for idiots by most of the team and the management set up, we've been duped into thinking that the board actually have any idea what they are doing and we've been plied with ridiculous statements and banal info on the O/S all season. I'm really proud of the Bench and the board have done an amazing job in helping to get it up there in the first place, i'm really proud of being a Torquay fan and the fans have done an amazing job home and away in following their sh*t team of players come rain or rain and i'm really proud of you people out there who still believe against all the odds that we can retain our league status. I don't have that left in me and i base it on stats, probability and a hunch and as one of the few who said we were heading for a relegation battle back in November. I hope that second time around i'm so far off the mark you can all laugh at me.

If the rest of the fans and members of the site are anything like me, you are bound to be up on minute and down the next we are a relegation scrap it is bound to happen. Our performance home to Oxford had me reaching for the towel, and I was ready to throw it in, that was about as bad a performance as I have seen and at that point as I said to a few lads from this site I could see no way back.
But then our team proved they could battle and produce a fight, what a fantastic point won at dagenham, followed by another good point at Southend. Then I am up again 6 pts in a week, great performance against Chesterfield and once again proved we could dig in against York.
That took the pressure of going to Northampton and to be fair expected nothing there, more hoped. But then home to Bradford and see Oxford home, guttless, back to the panic and hoof it forward football, most of us are down again , purely because the bottom 2 both won, but as said it is not about fans wetting themselves, as a team we have proved we can play, we can fight, but we have also proved we can be truely awful and fall apart at the seams.
Relegation does not bare thinking about, so all we can do as fans is support our team, and hope the footballing team full of fight turns up for atleast 2 of our remaining games. And as said if you want to point fingers and throw knifes fine, wait untill the season is up and see were we finish.
