I will be grateful for a long, long time that thanks to these people we still have a club, we still have national league football, and a chance to push back into football league in future. Does that put in perspective for anyone.
In response to Little Gull's scattergun rant against Dean Edwards, Chris Fleet, the manager, the assistant manager, the players - virtually anyone connected with the running of the club, Forever's post gives a true PERSPECTIVE on our season. There was a time when we didn't think we would even have a club so I'm truly grateful to Dean Edwards and the consortium that has taken over the reins. They are sensibly running the club on a 'break even' gate of 1800 instead of expecting Thea Bristow to act as Lady Bountiful by propping up the club to the tune of £2000 per month. I believe they have appointed an excellent management team and Paul Cox has managed to bring in a promising group of young players on one year contracts, unlike Knill who made poor signings on hefty two year contracts.
Yes - the gates may well fall below 1800 if there are many performances like the Cheltenham match but I suspect Mr Cox will make bloody sure that doesn't often happen ! His after match interview was refreshingly honest and I think that reflects his character. And another thing - this time last season we had enough cards to make up a full pack. Apart from one silly red card, the team is much more disciplined this season. That also reflects on Paul Cox's attitude to the game. So let's not get carried away by negativity. If we're as low as 17th at the end of September, then it might be time to get a little concerned. But like Forever, I am enjoying this season and I feel optimistic for the future. I really think the club is going in the right direction again.
