Good God I nearly feel guilty for supporting 2 teams.
I watch the majority of Torquay home games and the odd away game each season.
I watch Man City live once or twice a season and all their games on Sky.
No conflict as far as I'm concerned just equal loyalty.

Returning to the topic i.e Darren Moore. It was a real eye opener listening to the post-match interview with him. Those of us who watched him as a youngster here will remember the various injury problems he had, he stuck at it and became a very valuable member of the team who went on to greater things.
In the interview, he said how although the team had been through a really bad season they all stuck together, the team, the staff and above, all the supporters. The players also spoke extremely highly of him. Such a tragedy that such values no longer exist at the club where Darren started off. I'm sure all who remember him wish him all the very best for his future, one of the really good guys.

Failed there then, didn't you.

I'm 100% with you on the 'pie fetish' P78. Footy catering is a bugbear of mine now. The shit that some people put in their bodies is criminal but if you're at the footy you have three choices. Eat shit, unless you're at Forest Green, take your own food or just don't eat.

A lot of this nonsense about what a real supporter is has come about in recent times due to the increased commercialism of the game. It's about big business trying to create a stereotypical fan and then using that template to exploit and encourage people to part with their cash. Like all stereotypes it never actually truly fits any one particular individual.
Take for instance the "match day experience" . This is an attempt to manufacture an experience from which money can be made. Such as the club meat pie which has become something of a fetish amongst some fans. I have never purchased food inside a football ground anywhere that I would feed to a dog let alone eat myself unless absolutely starving.
I know clubs need alternative revenue streams but I can't help feeling there is a huge rip off element involved.
My own match day experience evolved organically if you like over time, were now it consists of a visit to the bookies before the match followed by a couple of beers before and after the game. The £15 I hand over to the club I is quite sufficient for my contribution to said club i feel.
All this bullshit about supporting one club only and about lower/non league football being better/more genuine is nothing more than inverted snobbery.

Haha P78. I'm sure you have 2 perfectly well functioning brain halves.

I'm not sure if you misunderstand. I'm not judging. I'm saying that most Torquay fans who follow Man U as a second team would do as you say, would be tempted to go to Old Trafford instead of Plainmoor and that's perfectly understandable. I'm not judging their support. What i'm saying is when that happens, according to the unwritten rules of some on here and their rigid 'thick and thin - don't watch any other clubs blah blah' way of judging others then you would be considered not a real fan.

I'm sure those who like to call others 'not real fans' would soon make excuses and say that it's actually ok for you to go to Man U instead of Torquay as it's sure, it's a one off but then there is no consistency with what they are saying.

You either choose Torquay or you are nothing. Torquay first and foremost every time or you don't count as a proper fan.

Obviously you do P78, i was just using that to try and explain the example and just how easy it could be to become a hypocrite as these other fans who slag others off and judge unceremoniously and incorrectly would probably do the same thing and go to El Clasico instead of the Torquay game.

If you don't slag others off for deserting and just let them be to find their own way and work things out for themselves in time then you are free to go and watch whoever you want because you have not judged. You cannot be a hypocrite then.

Yorkieandy wrote: 16 Apr 2018, 10:37 I think that's reasonable P78 yes. The crux comes though like i've said if you ever would choose watching the bigger team over Torquay. Obviously anyone with half a brain would rather a free weekend and free tickets to watch Man U v Liverpool over Torquay v Ebbsfleet but if you are a fan then you turn it down. Or at least that is the logic based on many of the arguments put forward on here about thick and thin and all that.
I've got half a brain. I can watch Torquay most weeks of the football season i choose. So if I got a One off chance to go to Old Trafford i would.

Most would be tempted though and that's how easy it is to suddenly find yourself in this category of being a traitor or whatever.
