are we giving the popside to Argyle fans ?

by Dave » 30 Oct 2013, 19:04

Left the thread this morning safe in the knowledge it would die a natural death, I come back and find it's got 2 pages of replies. well blow me down sideways.

Would like to respond to a few things, firstly I would never enter into a club bashing session with out good cause, I will not publicly discuss idle gossip and rumour unless I believe by and large what I have been told has a good deal of truth in it. This thread is not meant to be a bash the club thread, nor was meant as a rant, I certainly did not take any pleasure in writing it. It is a genuine thread.

Alpine Joe is right, I have not taken any response as having a pop at me, and to be honest it wouldn't bother one bit if any one did have a pop,I never have a problem sleeping.

I do not believe this to be a groundless rumour, I never said. I was told the club 'had' agreed to give the popside to Plymouth fans, what I heard, was the club had received a request and had discussed the idea of giving up the popside.

I, like Andy Glostergull was given this information by a club steward, I would bet it wasn't the same steward that told Glostergull.

The steward concerned when I questioned him, said Dave I am not joking, he even gave me the exact name of the club official who had told them, he even gave me the name of one director who was for the idea, I will be seeing the lad at the end of the week and will confront the lad and ask him to confirm what he said was true, if I was fed a load of bullshat I will come back an apologise for the thread,if he re-confirms every thing he said, I will happy to contact Andy Candy and name, names if that's what Andy wants me to do.

Just because Andy candy has come on and confirmed the popside will 'not' be given over to Plymouth, and tickets sold for the home, doesn't mean the idea was never discussed, and as it has been confirmed that Plymouth will not be given the popside, then I quite agree, it is time bury this thread.

See it more as a theoretical exercise and calm down you lot.
Dave is merely postulating that, in the hypothetical situation where we give a rival the Pop side, we may end up worse off financially because of the number of home fans who would refuse to attend for their pick of a number of perfectly valid reasons.

For my part, I too would likely refuse to attend, on the grounds that my match day experience is largely based around being allowed to stand with the same group of people in the same place. If this were missing and replaced with an unknown substitute of unknown quality, for the sake of one match, I'd give it a miss.

You tell me to see Gloster's post which I have already read. You say I should have read the OP which i had also previously read. Being told to re-read stuff I've already read is beginning to grate slightly, but if it's keeping you amused I can live with it.

I can't see that forevertufc owes an apology to anyone for telling us of a rumour he's heard and inquiring whether there was any truth to it. It gave him the added opportunity of laying out just where he stands regarding traditionally home sections of the ground being given to away fans. I doubt he feels particularly 'popped' at either, but he's welcome to explain if his feelings are badly hurt ;-)
Joe, also see above post from gloster.

I have noted that you in fact have jumped in with both feet after I have gently tugged your chain...........................

Hi Andy
I am afraid I heard this rumour too. In my case it came from one of the stewards. I don't know their names so cannot tell you who it is.,

I wouldn't worry about it Super. According to some most of us are continually and actively seeking ways to bash the club. We aren't happy unless we are bashing the club. We don't think before criticising, we don't take into account the full facts before commenting blah blah blah.

I'm sure Dave will come on and apologise should he feel he got it wrong in light of Mr Candy's response, not that he has anything to apologise for I may add. I'm not the only over sensitive one it would appear. :)

Alpine Joe wrote:Any rumour that Argyle were being given the Popside would have needed to be started before we began selling Popside tickets to home fans for that match, if it were hoping to attract any credibility.

The club has been touting it's 'Big Five' games with the £10 discount if you buy in advance for some time. It's much too far down the line to expect Popside Torquay fans to bring their tickets back so they can be handed over to Argyle fans instead. The story didn't stand up from the beginning, although it did give forevertufc an excuse for a rant which he seemed to enjoy :)
just because we started selling tickets doesnt necessarily mean that the club cant change their mind.
i think you should have read forevers OP before having a "pop" (see what I did there) at him.

anyway, f**k argyle.

A Candy wrote:I will deal with this rumour before it grows legs and state categorically that the Popside has NOT been given to Plymouth. Plymouth have received there normal allocation of tickets for the Away Terrace and the away sections of Bristows Bench. They won't be given any more for the usual health and safety reasons. I stand on the Popside and certainly wont be moved!

Any rumour that Argyle were being given the Popside would have needed to be started before we began selling Popside tickets to home fans for that match, if it were hoping to attract any credibility.

I saw loads of Argyle fans I know on the Popside for our derby games in the last two seasons. They didn't wear colours and behaved themselves. Similarly for the return fixtures at Home Park I sat in the Lyndhurst Stand. It's extra revenue so for responsible adults segregation shouldn't be ncessary.

Spoil sport.. :) thanks for clearing that up and that's good to hear, and just to add I was told this was discussed in the post man debrief by someone who was there, the only reason I did the thread.
