A move in the right direction again...

Post by Yellow4life »

Interesting and refreshing to see that yet another one of our youth players is having a trial at Aston Villa,

He is an U15 youth player. I have refereed him and he is very calm on the ball, he works very hard in the central midfield roll too.

Villa might be worth over half a million to us before long (they're strongly linked with a move for Eunan, I think £3,000,000 sounds about right). If they this kid too, we could be well on our way to being alright financially.*

Matt.

*Not alright at all, but you're better off owing an arm than am arm and a leg.

I remember many years ago seeing the Gulls beat Villa 1-0 in a league game with a huge crowd at Villa Park. Happy days..

Nobody can ever say they are middle aged until they snuff it - then the rest of us will know when you were middle aged ;-)

Now you listen here young man :@ a young Micky Cave scored the winner that day (I wasn't there, but I read all about it when the Herald Express "Buff" hit the street about 45mins after the game).

I remember beating Villa 2-1 at Plainmoor in Division three. I think it was 1971 the year we were relegated!:-( Dick Edwards was man of the match. We didn't get promoted again until the play off at Wembley in 1991!!!!!!!!!!

28,000 gate at Villa park that day. When we scored the Holt End started to empty. Muggins thought that they had given up hope and gone home but no, those were the days when you could freely circulate around a ground. Suddenly there seemed to be an awful lot more fans in our area than there were at the start of the match. Our celebrations at the end were slightly muted as it was time for discretion being the better part of valour!

I was sat in the grandstand and the Villa fans starting pelting us with coins! The "football special"train didn't leave until late in the evening so fans could take in the delights of Birmingham after the match. We were taken to the match by my mates dad and he was carting us around the city centre, shitting himself that we would get jumped by irrate Villa fans.
