Coach Road game

Post by goodluckgull »

Just thought I'd let you know that TUFC "fringe" players won by 6 goals to nil last night. Ash played in the midfield, as did Sam Chaney. Goals scored by Finch, Chamberlain and Shep ( who was the stand out player and could have scored ten and considering he had played in the Woking game he did very well)
It was good to see a number of the first team there to support the players representing Torquay United, including Gus, Courtenay and Ex. Nicho and Robbie were busy, but still had time to chat to the Torquay fans. Also, members of the board were there. I really like the sense of us all pulling together.
There was no sign of Oneil.

Finch and chamberlain are local players. Watcombe and Upton I think.

Also there were Mike and Sue Bateson, along with Richard Hancox whose 2 sons both featured.
A reignited interest perhaps?

Thanks. Is this part of the "revised" youth setup that was talked about, or just a couple of local league players who were available for a kick about?

The latter I believe. Always worth having a look at these local lads but really very unlikely they'll be good enough for professional football.

Good luck to them though, and if all it achieves is a couple lads on the local football scene having a positive experience, and spreading the word, then that's good enough.

Wonder why they couldn't use the facilities at their acedemy founded to provide players for Exeter and Plymouth.

With all due respect to you bixie I'm afraid I wouldn't want any of them near TUFC again. The people on board now are running a club properly IMO.

Scott Corderoy and Lewis Woodmore from Watcombe also played.

Scott played the second half and looked excellent, he's carrying too much timber but his command of the area, confidence, communication and particularly distribution were first class! He made a few decent saves and looked very very capable in my opinion.

Shep or whatever he was called was terrible!

He beat man after man but simply refused to pass to anyone! Even with 2/3 man overlaps he'd shoot or try to beat another man, very selfish. Clearly has a trick or two but that's about it.

Jamie Chamberlain had a great game, Finch fairly useful although doesn't have anywhere near the physique for professional football. Hancox' boys were poor I thought.

Ash played pretty well as did Chaney although he was another that held on to the ball for too long when there were easy passes on

Anyone who's ever been to Richard Hancox' indoor football area, if you can call it that will tell you, it's barely big enough for a 5 a side let alone anything else. As far as this game goes, it depends on the reason it was played, the club talked about putting itself back in the heart of the community, if this game was played for that reason, then I get it, and would say fair play to the club.

If this game was played for any other reason, why, just why? For a start the Devon side was by no means the strongest they could have put out, I believe no players from Buckland, Tiverton or Bideford played, It appears this may have been a Devon senior side, with senior being the key word.

There are many players playing in the S-D-L premier division because that's their level, that's as good as they are, and as good as they're going to be. There players playing at that level because they've got no ambition, that's an accusation I'd level at a fair number of the Watcombe team, including Finch, I don't know him as person do know him as a player, as I do most of the S-D-L premier teams and players.

More than half the Watcombe team are good enough to play a couple steps higher, but they choose to trudge around King George the 5th playing fields winning game after game, against sub standard opposition, Finch bangs in 40 odd goals every year, jeez my Dad could, none of these players are close to good enough for the NL; premier, South or below.

However as said, if this game was about bringing the club back to the community then I'm all for that, I would just urge the club to invite players from around local football to play in future games rather than sticking to the few.

Of those that played, aside from Shep and Sam Chaney, although Shep as I said before, was ridiculously selfish and will get absolutely battered if he tries all of those tricks in the conference, I thought Jamie Chamberlain, Scott Corderoy and the centre back (5), I think he's called Ben Gerring? Could all step up for a shot at conference football.

Scotts been there before, he's been on the books of quite a few to pro teams now but he suffered from shoulder injuries and obviously in more recent years has piled on the weight, but that can be worked off. What he does have though is confidence, bags of it! A huge command of his area, top class shot stopping, and the best distribution I've seen for a long time. His susceptible in the air purely because of his size but as I said, that can be worked off.

Jamie has the lot, his touch, vision, ball skills and work ate are top class, it's always been his attitude that's let him down, hence getting banned from almost 5/6/7 a side league going! If he had the right opportunity and the right arm around his shoulder then there's no reason he couldn't be a successful lower league footballer.

Gerring, if that's his name, looked really strong, quick, excellent in the air, great on the ball, and marshalled the defence expertly, he too would be worth a shot.

Ben Gerring as in the ex-Argyle player?
