Niall Thompson Released..

Post by DJ Gull »

..When His contract ends in January http://www.torquayunited.com/news/artic ... 60522.aspx

Sorry not too sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but I think its worthy of its own thread.

Arguments for both sides really, yes hes costing in wages as an unused player.

But I think he has it in him to be a dangerous player one day, if so, you know he will score against us in the future.

Best of luck to him in his Career!

Good luck, Niall. You have a real turn of speed - a latent talent alongside which you need to hone your other skills. I really hope you succeed.

agree with the above sentiment, shame he never got game time. A sad loss for the club in my eyes and Mr Hargreaves has gone down in my estimation.

Too hit and miss unfortunately. I was at his debut v Rochdale a couple of seasons back and I have never seen a clearer MOTM award, but on too many of his other appearances he didn't make an impact, and the reshuffle to Right Wing Back didn't work out either.

There is some potential there - if he can find the right club at Conf N/S or Ryman/Southern Prem level to develop, you can visualise him putting in a starring role in an FA Cup run and getting another shot at professional football.

Good luck Niall.

With Chapell, Ajala, Cameron and Briscoe he is fifth choice at best. It's for the best all round if he starts a new career outside of pro football and gets regular football lower down the pyramid. He's not done anything yet to suggest he could make a regular first team impact. Giving him another six months would really just be delaying the inevitable. Good luck to him in the future and I hope he can find a club where he can enjoy his football and get regular games.

Agreed, good luck for the future Niall. Don't see how this can be pinned on Chris Hargreaves though, Niall Thompson didn't get regular game time under Martin Ling, or Alan knill, it would seem all three managers held the same opinion.

Without regular reserve football it was always going to be hard for him to adapt to a full back position and being 5th(?) choice winger he was never going to be around for long. Perhaps he can concentrate on the sprinting and look for an athletics career or maybe American Football...

I was really excited about Niall when he first got involved with the first team as he had electric pace and i believed at league 2 level that was a rare and dangerous commodity. Sadly he had very little else to his game on all that i saw - maybe being harsh as he didn't get much of an opportunity but the more i saw him the more disappointed i became. He had spells out on loan to no great effect and it's a shame as if he developed the other facets to his game then he could be an exciting prospect. I wish him all the best and hope he can rekindle his career somewhere.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
