gullsplayer

Post by girlygull62 »

I listened to the commentary on gullsplayer this afternoon. Stephen Breed was main commentator with Paul Mulhern as co-commentator. I really enjoy listening to them, they did a few games last season on Radio Devon and i personally think they are the best pairing the radio have. they are always informative and the listener has no doubt what is happening on the pitch.
So lets hope Radio Devon has the sense to use them again this season

Wasn't able to listen today but have listened to the other preseason friendlies and I've thoroughly enjoyed the broadcasts. Paul I think has done a very good job of analysis. And while Steve is not the most polished announcer (which I'm sure he'd be the first to admit) he does a very credible job and I feel he's improving all the time. I've done soccer play-by-play on the radio myself but gave it up long ago because there really was no market for soccer on the radio in America. I've done it, I know how hard it is, especially when you're just handed a microphone having had no broadcast training whatsoever. That was the way it was for me and I get the impression that's how it was for Steve too. I definitely have a solid appreciation for his efforts and I also appreciate his enthusiasm. It's nice to have a true diehard fan behind the microphone. Certainly enjoy Steve more than some of the other announcers we've been subjected to. Will be very happy if it's Steve and Paul at the mics at Gateshead.

So. Much. American.

Can you imagine how that goes? "Hiiiiiiiii (they all say it like that, it's the adenoids), and welcome to this like play-by-play of the soccer ball game between the Manchester SunDevils and the Bir-Ming-Haaaaaaam Pantysniffers, proudly brought to you by Chrysler, The Power To Move, in association with Honda, Dare To Dream The Impossible Dream and co-sponsor Dunkin' Donuts where you can get a free jelly donut on your birthday.
Meanwhile, here comes the teams. Today's team announcement is proudly sponsored by Erectofin, Giving You The Erection That Your Ugly Wife Can't and Jeep, You Can Go Fast, My Jeep Can Go Anywhere...

Oh, sorry folks, we've missed the first 85 minutes, I was busy making sponsorship announcements and I don't really understand soccerball, I think the Quarterback for the SunDevils scored three assists and a fiekd goal shot.

**** Yanks...

Matt.

Also, I think Breedy's good fun. I've rarely got a bloody clue what's actually going on when things get exiting, but I don't care, because I can work it out based on how bad Steve's doing his crust.

I noticed that at Exeter, yesterday, substitutions were sponsored by Subway.

Seriously though, I agree with this, they are both modern Titans of football broadcasting, like having a modern equivalent of Kenneth Wolstenholme and Brian Moore in the same commentary box.
