....we are struggling to sign quality players. Can't see us attracting much....last years squad would struggle in the conference. Prepare for life in the conference for the foreseeable future.

Or, maybe it means that Hargreaves has been trying to recruit but is finding it difficult with the budget he has.

Or he isn't allowing himself to rush into stupid signings that sounds like a decent curry but ends up being a ready meal?

since none of our transfer-listed ( & wage-eating) players have yet, to my knowledge, been shifted, & since not-an-appreciable amount of dosh has been received from early-bird season ticket sales : just where are you expecting the funds to come from to pay all these 'quality' players ?

Well, when we talk about CH's budget for next season I thought this was going to happen..
CHAIRWOMAN Thea Bristow insists she is ready to back manager Chris Hargreaves and lead relegated Torquay United in a determined bid to win promotion back to the Football League at the first attempt next season.

Just a thought. Is it possible that the pressure in the club to sign players has in the past influenced them to sign somebody, anybody? Might this have something to do with the inheritance that we now have from Alan Knill, who signed a donkey or two in desperation to sign anybody? The result, we now have some players that nobody else wants, including a striker that couldn't hit a barn door from two feet away.

Absolutely GITP although I still reckon we have players that just haven't been used properly by all managers. Hawley has been disastrous for us but he did used to have a scoring record and that goal he scored v Morecambe was top drawer. I think he could do a job at conference level but we just haven't played him and Benners in the right manner and given them direct, fluent and consistent service. If it takes Van Persie 2 accurate crosses for him to get on the end of one and score then it takes Hawley about 15. If we don't get enough balls into dangerous areas then he isn't going to socre and then hangs back and ends up playing with his back to goal the entire game and we lump balls up to him to hold up. I'm not defending him in any way shape or form and Knill signed some dross but with weaker opposition and some fresh players then those like Hawley who we can't shift maybe just could be the answer in the conference. Part of it also lies with their attitude. It's a gamble but if we're stuck with them then we may as well try our hardest to get our money's worth this season.
We also shouldn't forget that there are a lot of players that were already here when Knill arrived that have been worse than some of his signings. At this level all managers have to sign poor or unproven players, it's then what you get out of them that matters. Sadly neither Knill nor Hargreaves could squeeze out enough.

Hargreaves needs to get his finger out as it's no good waiting for the so called best players as the ones without clubs are the ones no manager wants.
The last couple of weeks were the key times in a managers summer holiday(He does not get one) if he waits to long it will be the same as last season when Knill managed to get our star signing Carl Hawley. (£) It could be Phillips promise of a good budget was a con to get pressure off himself and the board.

Knill didn't wait long to attempt to deal last season.

Mr Ferrari Knill signed our star player on 1 August 13 so I would say he waited and got someone that nobody wanted.
